Thought I'd start a thread where we can suggest DVD's to watch that aren't blockbusters.

Just watched "Red Eye" and it's actually a very good movie.

Anyone else have any suggestions of movies that didn't make a big splash at the box office but still VG and worth seeing?

Netflix - Is the cure-all to renting movies you might be skeptical about.

No late fees, huge library, shipping included and quick, return postage included. Unlimited rentals. Just convenient.

OK give you some older ones

The Duellists base on a true story about to French officers that get into a big series of duels spanning the Napleon era great movie has Harvey Keitel and Keith Robert Carradine Dircted by Ridely Scott (1977)

The Long Riders this is a very good account of the Younger gang this is a western. Here is an intersting thing about the movie the younger; miller & james where brothers the actors are all the actors that played them where real life brothers. It has a great scene where they ride horses through a glass window. The Brothers where played by

Younger's: David;Keith and Robert Carradine
Miller's: Dennis and Randy Quaid
James's: James and Stacey Keach

Directed by Walter Hill (1980)

Well worth the rents imo very well made movies if you like those type movies. I will try to think up some more later

True Romance with Christian Slater, Dennis Hopper, Gary Oldman, James Gandolfini, Christopher Walken and others.

Very good movie...was written by Quinton Tarrintino (sp?) but he sold the script to get money to make Res Dogs....I actually like this movie much better than res dogs.

Don't let the name of the movie fool you either, it is full of action.

========

The Sandlot - good movie about a bunch of kids playing baseball...really good movie.

====

October Sky - good movie about young kids in a rural coal town in WV during the space race and how they overcome things by making rockets....based on a true story.

===

Tigerland - Good movie about soldiers in Louisiana going through training to go to vietnam.

===

Eurotrip - The movie makes me laugh every time I watch it.

===

RockStar - For some reason I just love this movie.

I liked this one as well.

Four Brothers is a good one. Just don't have the kids in the room. Lots of cussing and violence.

The Sandlot is very funny.....Your killing me Smalls :lmao:

I thought Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy was good. Sam Rockwell just steals every movie he's in.

Movie was classic as is Res Dogs. Own them both on DVD.

Will buy both again when Hi Def DVDs come out.
QT is the best American filmmaker IMHO.

Mystic River. Sean Penn and Tim Robbins are fantastic.

Crash. Really deep movie about intertwined lives.

Kill Bill. Interesting meshing of foreign film concepts into truly American film. Funny how much we are truly the hodge podge society blending so many elements.

Man of Fire. I think its Denzel's best performance and the little girl is great. Also brought notice to a very real problem south of the border.

Older Stuff: I also use Netflix and have watched a ton of old Redford, Pacino, DeNiro, Newman movies and have found them to be especially guy flickish and pleasingly well done. Bullitt, Fort Apache The Bronx, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Deer Hunter, Casino, And Justice for All, Dog Day Afternoon, Heat, Serpico, Judge Roy Beam, Cool Hand Luke, Slap Shot.

Check out:

Trees Lounge- Great movie, directed by and starring my favourity actor, Steve Buscemi.

Memento- Warrants multiple viewings just to catch everything.

Naked- Great British movie directed by Mike Leigh. Not for the fainthearted.

In The Company of Men- An absolute classic with a devastating ending.

City of God- Brazilian movie. Very hard-hitting.

Office Space
Requiem for a Dream
A Bug's Life
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
Spaceballs
Goodfellas
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
