Chiefs' Bowe tells magazine of teammates 'importing' women to hotels

5/19/2010 9:14:55 PM

Chiefs wide receiver Dwane Bowe's in the latest issue of ESPN the Magazine scheduled to come out Friday talked of Chiefs players arranging for women to meet them at the team hotel when the Chiefs played a game in San Diego in Bowe’s rookie season of 2007 according to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star.

“My rookie year, we were playing in San Diego,’’ Bowe said, according to the magazine. “You hear stories about groupies hanging out in hotel lobbies, but some of my teammates had it set up so there was a girl in every room.

"The older guys get on ******* and Facebook a week before we go to a city; when a pretty one writes back, they arrange to fly her in three or four days in advance. They call it importing. Younger guys don’t have the money to do it.

"Anyway, these girls had the whole top floor. They know everything about us -- first and last names, sisters and brothers, salary. This one girl was talking to me like she’d known me for years. ‘Hey, D-Bowe, how’s Grandma?’ I’m like, ‘How do you know my grandma?’

"She knew that I talk about her every time I’m interviewed for a story. I told her I had a girlfriend, but she didn’t care. She was wearing my jersey, sitting in my lap, making it look like we knew each other. Then she took a picture and put it on Facebook. That almost got me in trouble.’’

The Chiefs had no response to Bowe’s comments, and Bowe could not be reached for comment. The story became public after the media interview period with coach Todd Haley and players concluded.

Some of the stories I've heard about the, ahem, access players have to women during training camp after games is pretty surreal, so I can't say this is that surprising.

I am HIGHLY surprised an active player would willingly put his name to admitting that such stuff takes place.

I dont see too much wrong with what Bowe said as long as he didn't specifically implicate anyone. I obviously haven't read the entire piece but from what i've seen, he didn't name names.

The majority of wives/girlfriends are surely already aware of this. They hear stories - women talk. It's not like what Bowe said is anything people dont already know. If you have a friend/relative who is/was an NFL player, or know someone working for a team that travels with them, I'm sure you've heard plenty of stories. Not saying that every player out there is living foul, but this is pretty common from what I've been told.

I actually have that issue in hand right now.

The entire story bit is contained in the article that Hos posted. In the issue, there's an entire section dedicated to athletes tales from life on the road.

That's nothing. I guess he didn't read Jerry West's glory days as GM of the Lakers. Magic and the guys were shuttling women through the lockerroom. Heck, they never made it to the hotel. West told of stories of Magic/players having sex during halftime and directly after games. West said Magic would have sex with women immediately after games, and then come out and do a post game interview. I still don't know if I believe AC Green was really a virgin after hearing all these stories.

Blame Tiger Woods. The guy blew it for every pro athlete.

My co-workers son is good friends with MJD and the stories he'd tell me were unbelievable.

I feel sorry for the fathers of these women.

I don't see what the big deal is. According to Bowe, these women just want to sit in your lap and talk to you about your families. They even wear your jersey to show support.

I agree. The OP must really be bored. This is not news. There will always be certain types of chicks who are gold diggers who go after pro athletes. Stop the presses!

Bowe is going to be a pariah in the entire NFL because of this. The one hard and fast rule of all professional sports is that you never share what happens when you're on the road.

Imagine the trouble he's caused the married players on the team........
