I have to admit Dwayne Harris has me intrigued. I like him as a receiver and even as a punt returner, but I am little confused as to what his upside is. If he gets the mental aspect of the game down just how good could he be? Is he fast or just quick? Does he have good hands like a Patrick Crayton? Who does he compare to that is playing in the league now or even in years past?

He reminds me of KMart, but a little quicker and shiftier with better vision, too.

I'd say it's a bit early to say, but he's not really a burner; ran a 4.5 at the draft. He may have improved on that, having spent an offseason under Mike Woicek, but probably not by much. Out of all the receivers the Cowboys have had over the past 5 years, I'd say he reminds me of Patrick Crayton.

Taken from the link above:
Overview

Harris has enough ability and a polished skill set needed to succeed as a slot receiver in the NFL who can also contribute as a returner. Hard-working player who was productive in college. He can beat man coverage underneath and find openings in zones but doesn't possess the pure explosion to beat tight coverage. Not a threat to beat you deep but can create some big plays evading the first defender. His willingness to go over the middle and his effort while run blocking demonstrate his great toughness. Harris should come off the board in the middle rounds of April's draft.
Analysis

Strengths

Harris is a crisp, refined route-runner. Gets in and out of his breaks in a hurry. Can find soft spots in zone coverage. Plucks and snatches the ball away from his frame. Almost built like a running back - can break tackles in the secondary and make the first man miss. Willing to catch the ball in traffic and productive doing so. Weaknesses

Doesn't have impressive height or top-end speed. Can struggle to separate from quicker, faster corners. Won't consistently challenge the defense vertically and won't take the short pass for six. Doesn't catch the ball over his shoulder naturally. Sustained a season-ending foot injury in college.

ill wait before i get all giddy over it. he might be a preseason warrior as were some others. im not saying he is but i save my giddyness for when it counts.

I don't see that at all. Crayton was a real smooth guy, decent speed but not explosive. Harris is quick and has a lot of burst.

I think of the guys playing now, he's got a skillset very similar to Wes Welker...I guess that's probably his ceiling because he's not very big.

From a historical Cowboys perspective, I think he could be similar to Kelvin Martin.

Glad people are back on the Dwayne Harris bandwagon. Same thing happened last year after he took a short pass to the house, which I didn't find nearly as impressive as his plays this week.

As far as who he reminds me off, I'll say he reminds me of a niftier Devon Bess - who is much better than he's given credit for. His ceiling is potentially higher than Bess'.

Isolate him with a slower db and he can deliver. One important thing to remember, he now knows he can do it. Confidence is deadly.
:starspin

Roddy White/Victor Cruz. Similar height, weight and speed. Better with short/intermediate routes.

I guess it's the dreads but he reminds me Barber, but with a quicker lighter frame. He may not be tall, but he runs like a RB. I've been hoping since we drafted him that he would be a player.

He played RB in college. QB in HS.

From what Romo says, he needs to work the little things, whatever that might be. He does think he has potential. I'm not sure how his ceiling is. I think he will contribute nicely.

Hines Ward?
Donald Driver?

And I really don't like seeing fans try to measure a current NFL players' potential by his pre draft evaluation. We're would that have put Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Brandon Marshal, Arian Foster, etc, etc, etc, etc,?
It is not valid.

And no, this is not to say Harris or Beasley or whomever will be be a pro Bowl player. Just saying draft assessments can be way off

90% WR in college but did do a few run plays
Yes, did play QB much earlier.

I swear some of you are just naming the first random receiver that pops in your head. Roddy White? Really?

Hes a bull after the catch. Its the dreads man:eek:
