Dwayne Harris in the slot?

As we all know Jerry opened his big mouth again yesterday saying they will not be looking outside of their practice squad for another receiver.

He expressed interest in Harris coming back to the active roster.

Looks like he will be taking over Dez's punt returning job again... and maybe KO kickoffs as well (which have been unsatisfatory to say the least)?

Will Harris be the 3rd receiver option? Will the leash finally be loosened and give him a shot.

With Ogletree, Holley, and Harris to fight for that 3rd receiver/slot position who do you think will end up in that position come Sunday. And the next 3 weeks Austin is out. I personally am worried about Dez going down at some point again this season. Something which Jerry and co. haven't really prepared for with such weak depth at receiver. But time will tell on this one.

And yes, I spelled Dwayne* wrong. My apologies.

I said before Jerry mentioned anything that we should bring up one of the young players from the PS as opposed to going outside. Reason there is nothing out there if there was other teams who have suffered injury at WR would have claimed them.

I don't see what the issue is with Jerry making the statement was it suppose to be a secret?

I'd rather see us do some things with Murray in the slot, frankly.

They may do some things with Felix in the slot. Because to be honest... Felix should not be our starting running back anymore.

Haha yes I remember you Doomsday101. Congrats on calling it.

So what's your opinion? Harris in the slot or will it be Ogletree yet again or does Holley get off the bench?

Would not doubt seeing a combination of the 3. Again who will Romo look to? There is 1 football and with Dez, Robinson and Witten the vast majority will be directed at them. those 2 or 3 passes that may go to Ogletree/Harris or Holley. You can't really think that Romo will be looking to them as opposed to his primary targets?

I don't understand the comment about "loosening the leash and giving hima shot" because Harris is merely a rookie late round draft pick who had one very nice preseason game. Getting a shot to return to the roster is his shot, but he hasn't earned anything more than that.

But I will be glad to give him a chance to return kickoffs. He didn't do anything special the first time around in his very limited opportunity to return kickoffs, but there was always at least a sense that something "could" happen. With Ogletree the only sense is that we will be lucky to get the ball to the 20 yard line.

As for punt returns, he could be the standard guy, with Dez being used in specific moments.

I think when talking a 3rd WR that the combonation of Ogletree,Holley and Harris should be able to make that 1 or 2 catches they will get to move the chains. Dez,Robinson and Witten will continue to get the majority of passes and I have no doubt Murray and if Felix returns will be involved in the passing game as well.

I think we should give Harris a shot. We have seen what Ogletree can/can't do and they really just don't seem to trust Holley to any extent. Mine as well put him out in some 3 receiver sets and see if he can make some plays and has some value.

He was a better kick returner than Ogletree, that's for sure.

As in give him a shot at receiver. Not for the whole game, but put him out there, give him a few looks and see if he can make a few plays out there. I understand he is a late round rookie, but when we released him we very well could have lost him if he didn't clear waivers. So I'm saying at least give him a shot back on that field to make some plays. See if there is any value there. Based on the uninspired performances of Ogletree at punt returner and occasionally receiver, I think some of the other guys should get a chance as well.

As I said I think all 3 will be in and out of the game depending on the situations.

Still, what did you mean by "loosen the reins". That would seem to indicate you believe Harris had previously proven he deserved more opportunities as a receiver but the team has been holding him back.

Nevertheless, what I expect will happen while Austin is out is that any or all of the bottom 3 guys will see some time. So far none of them have distinquised themselves as the clear guy that needs to step into the No. 3 role.

What does it matter? Romo only throws to Robinson and Witten anyway? ;)

Haha it does appear that way. And DeMarco Murray as well:rolleyes:

Yeah, all 3 really have their positives and negatives, and none have really earned anything at all. Holley has great heart and desire, but lacks top end speed and is just an average overall athlete. Harris is quick and tough, but lacks a real burst. Olgetree is a great athlete with speed, but lacks vision, dependability and motivation.

It would be nice for one to step up, but at this point, all should be rotated til one shows that they can step it up given the chance.

at this point i rather see harris than ogletree. Ogletree just doesn't seem like he wants it enough. But i heard harris doesn't practice well and doesn't run too good of routes. But i love the way he plays. He plays like a lil dez.

I rather see harris return kicks and punts than stiff legs ogletree.:laugh2:

I guess ogletree experience in the offense and speed is giving him the leg up.
