Well Zone, I finally finished the follow-up to my Demarcus Ware painting. I originally wanted to create an offensive/defensive player of the decade for our Cowboys but I recently had the urge to veer off-course. I decided to do a series entitled "Face of the Franchise."
The goal was to pick a representative for each of the 32 NFL franchises. This would be the athlete that, over the past decade, would be on the tip of the casual fan's tongue when asked who jumps out when they thought a specific team.
Now I know that the casual fan would most likely pick Tony Romo to represent all the Cowboys stand for. He is that flashy, charismatic, gunslinging, celebrity quarterback that just screams out Big D. Let's face it, when the average fan thinks Cowboys, they think STARS.
But I'm not the average fan and I can cheat on my own art series if I want to, so when I think Dallas Cowboys in the past decade, I think blue collar work ethic; I think class and character; I think Jason Witten. Sure the Cowboys will always be about Glitz and Glamor but there is room inside the big top for a, steady, reliable grunt like Witten.
So here's to you Mr. Witten...may you always be the security blanket to our Linus...(full disclosure, I'm actually a HUGE Romo supporter - I'll never forget the lame joke we were regarded as before he showed up, so to pick Witt over Romo tells you how much I deeply respect him.)
And a close-up, for the ladies?
I'll be moving from team to team doing work for all franchises, though something is telling me that three teams may remain faceless (Unless someone can think of an athlete when playing word association, Commanders edition - that was wrong and I apologize slightly)
