Most teams and their fans experience optimism during the off-season because of all the player changes and additions. Logic would dictate every team improves during the off-season, at least in theory. I think last year's Philly record had more to do with the horrible NFC than anything. That is not to say that Philly didn't have a good team because they are still the the best NFC team right now. However, a lot of those other teams had injuries last year and started rookies, so I see a lot more competition for the Eagles this year. Not to mention, you're making assumptions based on injury-free seasons for some players.

Last year, if the Cowboys had not lost Campbell (hurt the most), Glenn or Woodson and had Julius Jones all season, they would have won at least 2-3 more games at minimum. While that would not have helped them beat Philly, the same thing can be said for several other teams including Carolina for example which may have threatened Philly had they not lost key players early in the season.

If McNabb goes down (no, I don't hope he does .. I never wish for injuries to any player) for the season in pre-season, do you still think they can be 14-2 without him? What if TO doesn't play this year for the Eagles? What if Andy Reid has a heart attack? (I really like Andy Reid so I hope that never happens)

The Eagles did well last year because they suffered no major injuries outside of TO to their key players. While it's true TO was your best player, the team had been to the NFC championship game prior to signing TO so his injury did not hurt as bad as say you losing McNabb.

Fortunately for Philly, you're defensive cordinator is one of the bests and appears to have no aspirations of holding a head coaching job. I cannot begin to stress how lucky you guys are in that respect.

So, is 14-2 possible? Of course. Is 5-11 possible? Of course.

Optimism really is a great thing :) You can look forward to every season no matter how your team did last year.

I have seen stronger NFC competition; uncertain if I'd consider the NFC weak. Nevertheless, this year should prove to be a much more competitive NFC than last year; which will increase the significance of the NFC Championship.

That is not to say that Philly didn't have a good team because they are still the the best NFC team right now. Last year, if the Cowboys had not lost Campbell (hurt the most), Glenn or Woodson and had Julius Jones all season, they would have won at least 2-3 more games at minimum.

I think the Cowboys had every opportunity in the world to beat the Eagles last year. Uncertain what happened, but I'm gald it turned out the way it did (speaking strictly from an Eagles fan perspective of course). In both games against the Cowboys, I was sweating up until the 4th quarter.

Some teams play others better for several reasons; familiarity, teams being well suited, similar offensive/defensive quality, and the ever present rivalry. I'm not saying we're the better team, but we do seem to find ways to win against NFC East teams. This year may be different ...maybe not!

Here, I think you're really talking about injuries to key players. But unlike last year, we've picked up player depth in several key positions; including the QB. Injuries is an awesome predator -- no one can really predict what the extent of injuries will be on any given team. Look what happened to T.O.! That's something Coach Reid will never forget. Speaking of Coach Reid, I believe he'd coach from his hospital bed if they'd let Him -- that's how dedicated he is.;)

So, is 14-2 possible? Of course. Is 5-11 possible? Of course.

No one predicted Miami going 16-0 -- until they proved it possible.
By the way, very few fans speak about that Miami NFL Sweep! Do you think that team was the best NFL team every assembled? Just curious.

BTW, I deem this post an honor, because this is the first time I've ever received a response from you. Wait ...it's only because of the offseason isn't it:)

You can go 16-0 for all I care, Mcnonuts and company will still choke on their own vomit.

You pulled a sneaky move there (eh)..but the full post was this:

You can go 16-0 for all I care, Mcnonuts and company will still choke on their own vomit.

I agree with the second one...:D

Anyways..on a serious note...

I could care less how you guys do during the reg season, as long as WE make the playoffs...I'm fine with it.

I don't expect us to get past the first round, but if they surprise me we will go to the second round, but I would imagine it would end there...that is all IF we make the playoffs (I'm expecting that, but you can never know, esp. with the fact that we may not "gel" perfectly)

As for the Eagles...well...it wouldn't surprise me as much to see them at least make it to the NFC championship game...though if TO does not play...the WR spot isn't good enough to get over the hump again IMO...

If the Steelers can post the record they did last year with a rookie QB, if the Chargers can post a record like they did last year with what people considered a fallen QB (hence the reason they drafted Rivers) and no notable WRs and a relatively unknown TE.

Then I guess it is not much of a stretch that one of the most winningest teams in the last few years, the eagles, could go 14-2.

I doubt they will but I bet that record is not too far off the mark when the season is over....although I bet they will still be 0-2 or maybe 0-3 in the Superbowl. :D

Even as an Eagles fan, 14-2 might be too much... 12-4 is my high record and 10-6 the low. With loses to teams such as the Falcons, Commanders (@ DC), Broncos (@ Denver) and Chargers a greater probability.

You Think so? I don't know ...I Guess it depends on a healthy Eagles teams versus the last few years of injuries that's plagued us. It also depends on how well those other teams have improved from last year; coupled with their injury rate.

Count on this -- the Eagles will bring their "A" game -- every game!
