Eagles 44, Gutless Wonders 6: At least Wade will be back in '09!
Anger. That's the only real emotion I have for the this team right now.
I wish I felt sorry for them. I wish I felt sadness for them. Maybe even wish I felt some compassion for them.
But nope, it's just anger.
Why so angry DCFanatic?
Because what I saw yesterday reminded me of 1989. Some of you will have no idea what 1989 was like, but for those that do you will take a deep breath and a long sigh right now.
Now this team has a ton more talent than that 1989 team had and no one can deny that fact.
But with that performance yesterday you would never know it.
And that's what makes me so angry that I don't have any room for those other emotions right now.
Back in 1989 the team was supposed to stink. That team was rebuilding so a 44-6 loss to a good Philly team at their house was surely a possibility. And when it did you just took it in stride and said that the Eagles better enjoy it because in time this team is going to get better and in time we will be handing out the punishment.
So if I am fan right now in last days of 2008 what have I seen to think this train wreck known as the Dallas Cowboys isn't headed in the complete opposite direction?
When Parcells came to the Cowboys in 2003 I was happy that someone proven was going to be trying to work with Jerry in turning this thing around. By 2006 I saw signs that this was happening. There were still some kinks to work out, but for the most part the team was at least headed in the right direction even if the talent level wasn't so great in some spots.
Once Parcells jumped ship I wondered if Jerry could find someone else to step in a keep the plan in place which had seemingly restored order.
Slowly but surely we have seen that his choice, Wade Phillips, has done just the opposite.
Wade has been running around making excuses for this and that since he arrived and making sure he has the backs of all his players instead of holding them accountable which is what most coaches do.
So in about two years that train which had at least been traveling at a good rate of speed on a set course is now completely off the tracks in a heap of twisted metal. Simply put, it's a disaster.
And that leads to the answer as to why I am so angry.
I have no real sense of hope going forward. I am being told this coach and his staff are coming back. I already know that with all these long term contracts in place most of this team is coming back. I can see it in Jerry's eyes that he has run out of ideas about how to get this team back into the Super Bowl.
But DC, we can find some good Free Agents come March and then some good draft picks in April!
Didn't we just do that already in the past few seasons? And aren't we constantly told time and time again that this team is already the most talented team in the NFL?
So what's next?
People are going to start telling me Wade is going to change his approach? That's not happening.
Jason Garrett is going to figure it out? I am not even sure he's coming back to this mess. If I was him I would be looking to move on from this calamity. He's got WR's and QB's calling him out all over the place. He has an old offensive line coach working under him that came in as a supposed genius and is not being looked at as a 'has been'. He has a huge contract that cannot be justified by the job he is doing. And right now I could care less if he comes back because his offense was night and day from 2007 to 2008.
So here's what I see waiting for me in 2009.
A sloppy, undisciplined, uninspired, underachieving, unmotivated and inconsistent football team who runs around talking the talk while never actually walking the walk.
Why can't I have hope that maybe that's not what this team is 2009?
Because that's the team I saw in 2008 and supposedly nothing is going to change in 2009 from what Jerry Jones says.
If Jerry alters his stance and decides to make some dramatic changes than maybe I will change my expectations for 2009.
