From 247 Sports today:

The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly in on the Calvin Johnson sweepstakes.

According to Steven Albritton of KMBC in Kansas City, the Eagles are aggressively pursuing the rights for Johnson, the former four-time All-Pro wide receiver from the Detroit Lions.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen said Monday the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Eagles are the two teams most interested in trading for Johnson, further signifying the Eagles interest.

The Eagles want to add another weapon for Carson Wentz as the trade deadline approaches Tuesday. Philadelphia has the best record in the NFL at 7-1.

ESPN's Adam Schefter said in the report earlier Sunday that the Lions encouraged teams to reach out to Johnson to see if he wanted to come back. The Eagles may have called about his services.

Johnson was reportedly on a flight to Philadelphia earlier Sunday, furthering speculation of a trade. The Eagles will have a spot available on the 53-man roster with Jordan Hicks lost for the season with a ruptured Achilles.

Philadelphia has yet to put Hicks on injured reserve.

Johnson, who recently turned 32 years old in September, has 731 catches for 11,619 yards and 83 touchdowns in nine seasons, all with the Lions.

He retired after the 2015 season after content feuds with the Lions front office.

The Eagles may be trying to get Johnson out of Detroit once and for all.

32 years old, and way from football since January 2016 (22 months)...color me unimpressed.

Yes please do it. Nothing better to destroy a balanced offense then to force it to a WR that has been away from the game for 2 years.

Like this for them. If he's in shape to play, he'd change the matchups for that offense in the playoffs.

Of course, he's 32, has been out of football for two years, and will cost them picks, too. Keeps them from getting younger elsewhere. But it's a decent roll of the dice if they get it done.

Can't see why DET would want to do it, though, unless they overpay for him. An in-division trade for a team that still thinks it's got a shot at the playoffs themselves.

Detroit wouldn't let Sanders play for anybody else. Don't know why they would let this happen.

Draft picks talk. That's my guess.

That dude is a freak of nature. If he stayed in decent shape, and just retired to get away from the Lions then he could be a good pickup for them. Would hate this move as a GT fan.

I doubt very highly Calvin's coming out of retirement. He's literally "fed up with football" and stated “I’m not coming back,” the 30-year-old Johnson said. “You ain’t got to worry about that.” Unlike Lynch coming out of retirement, the Greats from Detroit stay retired.

Philadelphia has the best record due to a very favorable first half schedule. The only real team they've played are the Chiefs and they lost against them. Halfway through the season, they have some tough games coming up, starting with the Cowboys after their bye. They won't have the best record anymore. Besides, being Cowboys fans we ALL know what happens with a great record only to blow it in the first round of playoffs.

32 is nothing for a WR with his skillset.

Also, being away from football is a bonus imo.

He's probably as healthy as hes ever been.

I don't think you realize how hard it is for football players to get into football shape. He may be the healthiest he's been in a while, but I think he's likely far from being prepared to contribute to an NFL team.

When your heart isn't in it, you're done. I don't think he's itching to play at ALL.
