Anyone know why? I remember he was considered the best WR of his draft class and comparable to Dez/TO as a big possession receiver. Haven't followed him much in the NFL. That's 2 different teams, about to be 3, at the age of 24. Was hoping we'd draft him to be the heir to Dez. Any chance still?

Edit: His NFL stats in 2 seasons haven't been that bad. I'd definitely take him over Brice Butler.

Always has had off the field issues, don't know what he did this time to get released.

Outstanding talent, but he would be someone you would have to really check out why they did this.

I would definitely add him for a look see if everything else checks out.

I've read that he's not very smart and doesn't learn his playbook and that his route tree is very limited. And apparently, he's not putting in the necessary effort to get better.

A 48% catch rate is not good.

Why? Well, for one, he can't learn the playbook. And more important, as one Eagle poster put it:

Darren Sproles: Size of a kitten, heart of a lion
DGB: Size of a lion, heart of a kitten

That about sums it up.

All I know is that there almost certainly is a "why" that is not just football related.

Had to be off the field issues. He could have been an elite WR but now it seems he will be yet another wasted potential that never developed because he cared more about acting a fool. I'm curious to find out what he did that got him cut because teams don't just cut bait with good talent without cause.

He was basically a really bad football player. Talent is one thing, being able to actually play well is another

Oh sure, and incidents like being a known marijuana smoker and tendencies of violence like pushing a woman down and forcing his way into an apartment were no cause to question his character? He was a talented player that allowed off the field distractions to degrade his performance. Your analysis is dismissive of the cause behind the cause of his on the field decline. In the pros it's seldom as simple as your narrative would try explain his downfall.

Or he was an overrated prospect with a good football body but not the requisite mental ability to play at a high level in the NFL. His pro career seems to point in that direction

I think you hit the nail on the head. He played HS football here locally and always came across to me as an entitled, spoiled kid, sadly. He has just never matured as an adult, IMO.
