Eagles land LB Witherspoon in trade with Rams

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired LB Will Witherspoon from the St. Louis Rams just before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET trade deadline, a league source told NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora.

The Eagles give up rookie WR Brandon Gibson and a 2010 fifth-round draft pick for Witherspoon, an eight-year NFL veteran who has 682 tackles, 19 sacks and eight interceptions in his career. Gibson was Philadelphia’s sixth-round pick in April and had played in one game this season.

The Eagles needed linebacker help after starter Omar Gaither suffered a sprained a foot during last weekend’s loss to the Raiders. Jeremiah Trotter hasn’t played well in his return to Philadelphia, which also lost Stewart Bradley to a season-ending injury during the preseason.

Then again, Spagnuolo is pretty good on defense, so if he doesn't want him then maybe something is wrong with the player.

I almost fell out my chair while the ESPN announcer was going over some of the play s that lead to Middle Linebacker Witherspoon sacking Campbell, forcing fumbles, and making interceptions ...the announcer said "What were the Rams thinking!" I broke up laughing.

But actually that's a dayam good question. Witherspoon is a beast!

It is not a coincidence the Rams are one of the worst teams in the NFL the past couple of years.

They play the Lions this week. Chi and Tenn are also on their schedule. Can they go 0-16? I sure hope so.
