Source: Eagles lose salary cap expert

Adam Caplan FOXSports.com reports Philadelphia Eagles salary cap analyst Adam Katz has left the team, a source told FOXSports.com.

Katz, who negotiated several contracts over the past year, is said to be returning to law school.

In recent years, Katz (1), general manager Howie Roseman (2), team president Joe Banner (3), Rich Hurtado (4) and Andrew Brandt (5) have negotiated player contracts. Brandt worked for the team in 2009 as a consultant. Hurtado left the team about a year ago to work for NFL player agent Todd France.

Wait, you mean there is a team of five Front Office people in place to negotiate player contracts and Howie Roseman isn't a one man show the way all GMs are?

Amazing how the truth slowly but surely comes out.

Undoubtedly the implications will be lost on the masses.

I know. I love the microcephalics out there who act like we need to "hire a GM." Really? You mean, like the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Cleveland Browns, San Franfreako 49ers, Carolina Panthers, etc. HAVEN'T been doing that?

There's more to a winning team than just getting a GM.

The key is the draft. Teams that draft well, win long term. Give me great scouts over any other Front Office demographic.

I firmly believe our current scouting department is top notch.

Meh. I'm not so sure. We could use some improvement in the offensive line scouting department. I think they're markedly better at the skill positions than they were 10 years ago.

I think we've just never been in the right spot at the right time to draft offensive line. Even this year at #9, we're in a terrible spot given this draft for offensive line talent.

Now if we can trade down, we can make a bounty of picks. I think our first pick, however, will be either a trade up for Patrick Peterson, or standing pat for Cameron Jordan or JJ Watt.

I can also see us trading down for two low firsts and taking Carimi and Stephen Paea.

I don't know that I want a GM per se - but a guy with GM experience like Parcells was a real help. Jerry can get locked in on a guy and make bad choices in player acquisition. When he gets locked in it seems like he can't be deterred. Maybe Garrett is going to help with this -- but honestly, the best thing for Garrett is to concentrate on the coaching stuff, building relationships with his players and staff, learning more about the defensive side of the ball, etc. He certainly will have input but not like you get from someone with more player evaluation experience
