That has to be the worst run blocking I have ever seen. The defenders shot through the line like they had a 30 yard running start.
I can imagine what Murray was thinking when we had someone on him as soon as he got the ball. In waves...

We may have lost Romo and Dez but at least we don't look like we are playing with only 3 guys on the offensive line.

I was actually kinda impressed with Claiborne in that first gif up there... and I can't believe I'm saying that. He stuck his head right in there to try and get that tackle.

This year, so far, there is absolutely no shame in saying Claiborne is playing well. That dude is flat out balling right now. He's finally playing like the high draft pick he is.

Loved seeing Murray do this. Looks like he's sayin' "why?" Well, to answer that probably because you had 50 yards of green grass in front of you and had ANOTHER costly fumble.

One of the guys on NFL network said this morning that you cannot run those type of run plays against a Marinelli defense but did not explain. What did he mean?

I'm guessing it's because we aren't a read and react defense up front. They all rush upfield. Those long stretch plays where they have pulling lineman just open up gaps for us to rush through and unless you have some serious speed in the backfield, it isn't going to go well for ya.

Mainly to do with the Tampe 2 personnel and scheme, they cover one gap and are typically undersized faster players who rush towards the ball carrier while trying to keep the linebackers free to make plays. If the RB is getting the ball 6 yards behind the ling of scrimmage, he already has a wall of defenders blocking the direction he's trying to go and a linebacker (typically a really good tackler in the tampa 2, like Lee is) zoning in on him to tackle him for a loss as he's going sideways trying to get to the edge. You actually see that a lot in those gifs, Murray took the ball and by the time he started to run he was already 5 yards behind the line and Lee or somebody else was already there before he could even head towards the line. The NFL is just a lot faster, and these plays just take too long to develop if you're not perfect.

Probably something to do with the fact that the front 4's job is to penetrate first and play the run second. If you have linemen running loose in the backfield those east west plays can get shut down pretty easy...

Plus with how our guys swarm to the ball? It's a wrap.
