Eagles re-sign LB Zack Baun

If you’ve got the money, why not
Unless they find gems the Eagles are not going to have the defense they had last year. They are losing their depth. That's what made them good. When 1 quality player went down they had a quality replacement so in most cases didn't miss a beat. It's different this year

No matter what happens in Philly, they don’t have to give back the two trophies.

Jerry is still trying to figure out how to win a division round game. Sounds as if he is well on his way.

Good. I know he had a good year but I am not sold on him doing so again. Ends the Garrett talk which would have made them a huge favorite to repeat

2029 it looks like. Before they win 1-2 more super bowls
Before then. The Eagles have $86.76 million in voidable years in 2027. And consider this. They have their top players on contracts that pay them option bonuses. Given their 2027 and 2029 problems they may start cutting players, or trading them, to avoid paying those option bonuses that create the 2029 problem. I think the Eagles are going to go all in to win another SB the next 2 years then we could see another re-tooling effort. Their MO is to trade players for draft capital and get some high draft picks. I think we could begin to see that as early as 2026.

By resigning Barkley and Baun, I think they added to their future CAP problem. I think the length of those contracts though is intended to push some of the problem into 2028 when they don't have much money parked in voidable years. But 2029 is the big problem for them They have $176.9 million in voidable years hitting in 2029. That's a huge number even if the CAP increases by 8.6% every year, as it did this year. If it does, the CAP will be $389 million in 2029 and the Eagles will have only $212 million to work with. And that's assuming they do not re-sign anyone else pushing more money into 2029.

Yep. They’ll probably trade a first for a future first and go into that year with 2 firsts and 2 seconds and field a young, less expensive team and be right back on track. By 2029 AJ, Baun, Goedert, Lane Johnson will all be gone.

Fangio is the reason…Nakobe Dean also played his best under him
Like Fangio, Al Harris seemed to be able to get 2ndary guys to play up. They weren't great, but often better than average.

It'll be interesting how the new ccoaching crew does with the DBs on the roster

Eagles will likely lose Sweat and Williams. They will demand top dollar… And the Eagles feel they can get relative production, at a lower value, from other players that line up next to Jalen Carter.
Agreed. I had thought they may try to keep Sweat, because they could actually open a lot of space by pushing his dead money forward, and they are thin at Edge, but I think they feel that while he is solid, he is not worth the contract he will likely be offered. With Williams they need to plan on Carter's new deal.
Keeping Baun is solid though.
Remember they did make a big mistake last year with Huff, and really need to give him the opportunity to play this year with that contract. Graham is also retiring likely. So they have Huff and Nolan Smith at Edge, Carter and Davis inside. Ojomo showed a lot of promise inside and Hunt did the same outside. I still expect they will go DL in the draft, they understand how important it is (unlike someone we know). Also wouldn't be surprised to see them save some money for later in FA and snag a vet (even saw Reddick mentioned)
It will be interesting to see if they keep Becton on the Oline. He was really good for them once moved inside, but they do have Steen who seems ready to play. Must be nice to have a GM like Howie.
