Source: Eagles Shopping Shawn Andrews

Posted by Mike Florio on April 23, 2009, 12:18 p.m. EDT
OK, now this is getting weird.

Less than two months after signing the brother of guard Shawn Andrews to a big-money free-agent deal and less than a week after trading for his college roommate at Arkansas (Jason Peters) and signing Peters to a big-money deal, the Philadelphia Eagles are dangling Shawn Andrews.
A league source tells us that the Eagles have contacted at least one team about moving the enigmatic Pro Bowl guard.

Shawn Andrews missed most if not all of training camp last year, due to clinical depression. Then, he suffered a back injury in the second week of the season and never returned.

The thinking was that the arrival of Stacy Andrews and Jason Peters would have helped get Shawn Andrews rejuvenated. Recently, it has been speculated that Shawn Andrews now isn’t happy with his own contract, in light of the monster deals paid to his brother and his friend.
Andrews is signed through 2015 at base salaries of $750,000 (2009), $2 million (2010), $2.5 million (2011), $2.75 million (2012), $3.75 million (2013), $5.25 million (2014), and $6.25 million (2015).

All these weird moves stinks of desperation in Philly. Trying to get one last shot before the team is handed over to Kolb for rebuilding.

I don't really see what they are doing. All these moves seem to head in multiple directions without a single vision.

Andrews has a domed head like Jay Ratliff.

It's the Abominable Snowman look.

Boom or Bust.

Does philly know something we don't about his mental disorder? I'm guessing they do or they wouldn 't be shopping him. If he turns out to be ok, upstairs, he could be an outstanding pick up for someone.

To me, the Eagles are actually a mess. I've heard of at least 4 guys whine and moan about their contracts and they just lost their emotional leader in Dawkins that held everyone together in that locker room. I think alot of people on here are overrating the Eagles this year. They won't be nearly as good as some make them out to be.

This doesn't make sense. One of their biggest issues was O-Line, they've made a couple of moves to shore that up this offseason and now they're trying to trade away the one good O-Lineman they did have, thus weakening to some degree an O-Line they just spent all that time, and money, rebuilding?

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me but then again this is the Eagles we're talking about, so I guess that shouldn't surprise me.

I was just watching Espn and John clayton came on and said that this is a possibilty.

Eagles get:
Edwards
#5 Pick

Browns Get:
S. Brown
S. Andrews
#21 Pick

I don't buy that for a second.

That would be a poor trade for the Browns, IMO. No way I'd do it if I'm them.

I dont see eagles wanting Edwards that bad. They are hemorrhaging players right now.

Had to edit my post, I thought you said Giants.

I don't know that I believe that. I know some think that's a bad deal for the Browns but I don't know that it is. They get out of paying a top 5 pick, top 5 money. They get rid of the disgruntled reciever in exchange for dropping down to 21 where they can find some value with another WR if they so wish and they get a Pro Bowl guard to help their o-line and get a quality, pro bowl type, corner to help their very weak secondary.

Then if the Eagles get Edwards they're going to have to pay him huge money and then they're also going to pick inside the top 5 and pay another guy huge money? Whose the guy they're picking there and giving top 5 money?

That doesn't seem like the kind of thing the Eagles would do, at all.
