BETHLEHEM, PA - The Eagles have come to terms with first-round draft choice Brodrick Bunkley, the defensive tackle from Florida State.
The Birds and Bunkley have agreed to a six-year deal that should be signed this weekend, and Bunkley will be expected to be in at Lehigh on Tuesday when the Eagles resume practice after competing in the Hall of Fame game Sunday night in Canton against the Oakland Raiders.
A source indicated that Bunkley will earn a guaranteed $10 million in the contract. The contract could be worth as much as $30 million if incentives are reached.
Bunkley will have missed 28 practices. He was the 14th selection in the NFL draft.
One of the stalling points was that the Eagles wanted to sign him to a six-year deal and his agent Gary Wichard was looking for a five-year deal.
Talks heated up on Thursday evening and the two came to an agreement today.
The 14th selection overall of the recent NFL draft, Bunkley (6-foot-2, 300 pounds) emerged as one of the best defensive tackles in the nation after a stellar senior campaign at Florida State. An All-America honoree, he recorded 66 tackles, nine sacks, 15 hurries, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble for the Seminoles. His 25 tackles for a loss ranked 2d in the nation and set a single-season school record.
In 44 career games, Bunkley started 22 times and amassed 129 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 24 hurries, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He finished his career ranked 5th in school history with 37 tackles for a loss.
The Tampa, FL, native attended Chamberlain High School (FL), where he led his team to the state finals as a senior while posting 18.5 sacks.
