Earl Thomas would be an interesting test

I think the Dallas Cowboys' culture is not conducive to winning football. I also think this is one of the worst coached teams in the league. In the Garrett era only exceptional players, like a Sean Lee, are good enough to overcome the chronic under coaching.

Earl Thomas is a great player. If he came to Dallas would he still be great or would he be molded into the mediocrity that surrounds this team? He is a great leader and a guy that backs up the tough talk. Would he be drowned out by the chaos, lack of mental and physical toughness, and mediocre play that has defined this defense for a long time?

My opinion - he would be a good player and big improvement over the guys (which is not saying much) that have been playing S for years. The taint will impact him though and he will be just good and not great like he was in Seattle. At 28 he should have a couple prime years left but the culture, lack of accountability, lack of aggression, lack of scheme, and losing will make him merely a good player. Maybe he is good enough to steal an extra win allowing Dallas to make the playoffs. That run would be quick though.

What do you folks think?

Bring him in. He would instantly be the best player on this defense and can groom a guy like Woods

At this point, this fanbase needs to be re-energized after this nightmare of a season.

I know personally, i am not excited at all about next season unless we bring in some big time free agents.

Not many players have left here and been that much better than when they were here
There is a nice list of players who have came here and been better
The right system, complimentary players and such can help a player but great players will be great anywhere

I have a total lack of confidence in this coaching staff. Scott Linehan should have been fired in 2015. How that guy is allowed to steward the young / talented offense is a joke. Sign FAs. Have a great draft. None of that matters because the roster is not the problem in Dallas.

The Roster AND Coaching is the problem.

We have no Swing Tackle (derailed our season)

Linebacking corps needs to be completely re done

We lack speed on offense and defense

We need a TE with Speed

The Coaching woes are self explanatory

Cedric Thornton was a good rotational guy in Buffalo last year. All the secondary guys had good seasons. Church was very good. That right system is not present in Dallas. That's the point.

Swing tackle??? The Eagles just won a SB with a back up QB. Give me a break.

I think Thomas' best days are behind him. He's openly pondered retirement and admitted Eric Berry's contract inspired him to come back. Once he gets paid, what's his motivation?

If Dallas brings him in, pays him, and he's a disappointment I suspect everyone else will be blamed except Earl Thomas.

We had a swing tackle who the coaches turned into a crappy G and crappy swing tackle.

Jaylon was playing pretty ok by the end of the season, and seems to be on schedule to 100% recovery.
Sean Lee is still Pro Bowl caliber.

I think we've got our starters, likely lose Hitch but get another vet backup, then a couple of picks this year.

In other words, we're actually in very good shape. I'll take losing Hitch and getting a fully healthy Jaylon.

Earl Thomas will only be a test if he is actually available.

I think he will be but he is under contract.

I think it’s silly to believe our environment is not conducive to winning football when we generally play winning football. But I also think Thomas would be a great move if her were available.

We definitely need more speed.

I love Witten. He’s an all time great. But watching the patriots and eagles. Gronkowski and Zach Ertz...... Witten is nowhere near the downfield threat that those two guys are. He just doesn’t have the athleticism anymore at his age.

Whether our future QB is Dak or somebody else, they are going to need a TE that can run a seam route with some juice and force the safeties inside.

That’s another problem with our offense. The opponents safeties don’t have any speed element on the inside to worry about and can focus on the outside receivers Dez and Williams.

"winning football" extends more to organizational success and playoffs/superbowl's rather than semantically reducing it to an over .500 record.

We had a fine swing tackle who the coaches straight ruined.

I wouldnt hate it...but it seems out of character for them right now...its a move they just dont do...so I'll believe it when I see it.
Id expect them to continue to build thru the draft....Derwin James at 19 for instance...if he is there...but I hope we dont sign another Robert Blanton tho.
