First, he threw it out of bounds. Way out of bounds. So it wasn't a good throw.
Second, you play conservative and get the first down. Long passes are harder to complete.
Third, it wasn't the right read because Landry clearly wasn't open.
My question stands.

they changed for contractual reasons, but Carolina did hit a 63 yard fg to win

what a way to lose. I love the Giants losing but part of me prefers they end up 6-10 or something and not get a streak of a few years with a top 3 pick like it seems may be happening

Um. 1 is irrelevant to your question.
2. No, you don't play conservative and long passes being harder is not always true.
3. If it wasn't a bad throw, it's a penalty (the reason he wasn't open).
