Interesting the have Mukaumu over Joseph 2nd behind Gilmore.
Damone Clark over Jabril Cox 2nd to LVE
Joseph nor Cox are even listed. Though it is meant to be a 2 deep depth chart, but they have 3 listed in a few areas.

What is FLEX, as they have Kearse and Bell there, and Wilson as the sole SS.
" Leighton Vander Esch, who is back to Pro Bowl form "

Uh, no.

I'm a fan of LVE, and wouldn't rule out a future Pro Bowl. But no. Not last year. Last year was just very good year.

The fact that Cox and Joseph aren't even listed as members on that roster breakdown is a scorching firebrand on the butt-cheeks of those two players and their agents. You two...you aren't players or names to us. You are nothing!

Pretty clear: those cats have pissed the Cowboys FO and coaches off something fierce.

Cox is a pure mystery. Never heard anything bad about him.

FLEX is probably SS/LB. In reality Wilson and Kearse don't play the same position

As several have pointed out here already, the fact that the team did not even list Joseph or Cox on the two-deep chart speaks volumes. Joseph has been a good gunner on STs but finding a decent gunner to replace him is not that difficult. I would not at all be surprised to see a Corner selected in the draft- maybe Day 2.

Looking at that depth chart, if we can get a monster IDL in the first two rounds and/or another LB and Corner on Day 1 or 2, we can really say our D is better going into 2023. The LVE signing was good but he’s always a neck hit away from being sidelined. We really need some more help there.

Where is the fan's line of differentiation on development of 2nd or 3rd year players other than playing time numbers, even if they have strong use on specisl team reps?

why would you trade him.. literally people on this board forget about what he did... he is a special teams ACE and we can't keep putting CJ Goodwin on the roster every year... let him play ST until the end of his contract and keep CJ off the roster, he is expensive and takes up another depth piece... at least KJ can play corner in a heartbeat - have you ever seen CJ Goodwin come into a game for CB relief? get the bias of he's a murderer out of your mind and look at it from a cap and talent stand-point, all you would be doing is giving another team a special teams ace
You can't trade him because no one will give you anything for him,
The reason you'd want to get rid of him is because as a high 2nd rounder, he makes too much money to be a "special teams ace".
Goodwin cap hit is about 1/2 of Joseph's, and it gets worse next year. He still has brain farts too, so not sure he qualifies as "ST ace". Goodwin certainly does.
My guess is we draft a CB this year, likely Day 1 of 2, and that player joins Diggs/Gilmore/Bland/Mukauma/CJ, with Wright/Joseph/Lewis competing for possibly 1 spot. Muk could also be considered flex cb/s. Joesph could earn it in camp if he shows up. Lewis may be a cap casualty as well, but we'll have to see what happens in the draft, and then camp.

ok in all seriousness we cannot take a EDGE player in the top 3, we are stacked really at the Edge position. I see Galimore and Golston are Due to come up for contract in a year or 2 so we need to find replacements for them at 3T and we only signed Hankins on a 1 year deal so we need another NT with Bohanna.

i see top needs for Defense as:

NT
3T
LB
CB - we have more leaving next year in FA.
- While NT plays a extremely vital role in our run defense, we're not gonna draft one in the very high 3 rds.
That's just not our cup of tea with the NFL draft and that role.

Just as we did with Bohanna and Ridgeway,. i can better see us again drafting a late round developmental NT.

- 3 techs ? Good luck with that as they are rare and not just falling off trees. Our best luck is if a medical risk 3 tech
like a Jeffrey Simmons type somehow falls so that we could draft and stash him until he is ready to play out.

CB - yes i can see a regarded CB in the 2nd or 3rd rd. Gilmore is on a one year deal i believe, And he's already 32 yrs of age.
But i'll only address that if a can't miss type falls and we'd have to draft him per value board.

LB ?... oh yes, i'd love to draft a regarded off the ball LB, IF Parsons was not gonna be asked to rejoin that role (which would better reserve him long term)
LVE is just decent - serviceable to get by, maybe they envision Clark as a future star.

On the 3rd level Im not as concerned on the order in how they're listed as much because guys like Muku's position flex and Lewis's return to a CB group provide safety in numbers.
I'll assume Brown will be released but either way, the corners should be okay. Safeties are fine.
In the middle Im not the biggest fan of the sample size of Clark so far. Injury returnee I understand, but LVE's lack of durability and Cox's inability to win more snaps make LB upgrade a decent draft need imo.
At the first level, edge is the best group on the roster and a position of strength with a variety of depth and skillsets. But then comes the all important missing piece(s) of whomever plays behind Hankins. Dangerously thin AGAIN to go into a season that way. However they play Osa and whomever they throw in rotationally, (Gholston inside or last chance Gallimore)as the 3 does not concern me as much as the 1t.
