Looking over my roster spreadsheet, and giving some thought to reports out of camp as to who's looked good, and who hasn't drawn much comment, I have come up with a list of about 20 players who might be candidates for the 8 man practice squad this year... one or two of these players might not be PS-eligible, the rules for who does and doesn't qualify are confusing to me...
RB Keylon Kincade-- I think he's a likely early cut, I wouldn't sign him to the PS...
RB Erik Bickerstaff-- don't know if he's eligible, but if he is, he might be worth stashing as a potential replacement FB this year...
TE Tony Curtis-- haven't heard much about him in camp so far, but I know the Boys liked him when they signed him as an undrafted rookie free agent...
WR Tom Crowder-- if he doesn't make the 53 man roster (and he might, if he keeps on making plays on special teams), then he'd be a player the Boys would probably target for the PS...
WR Jamaica Rector-- might be kept around for his potential as a kick returner, he hasn't done much as a WR in camp...
WR Reggie Harrell-- he's made a few plays in camp, but not enough to make the team, IMO... a poor man's Keyshawn Johnson, the Boys might want to keep him around as a developmental prospect...
OG/OT Ben Noll-- I think he's a fairly good bet to make the 53 man roster, but if not...
C/OG Matt Tarullo-- I see him as a pretty good PS prospect, on account of his versatility...
OT/OG Sam Wilder-- another who hasn't made much noise in camp, but the Boys were reportedly high on him when they signed him...
DL Jay Ratliff-- another who's looked good in camp, I think he makes the 53 man roster when it's all said and done...
DT Thomas Johnson-- has opened a few eyes in camp with his play, but looks like he faces a numbers crunch when it comes to making the 53 man roster...
DT/OG Chris Van Hoy-- when the coaches move you around from offense to defense and back again the way they have Chris, it does not bode well for you chances of making the 53 man roster, but it DOES bode well for your chances of being stashed on the PS, I think...
ILB Ryan Fowler-- if he doesn't make the 53 man roster, he's a good bet for the PS... I think he'll make the 53 man roster...
OLB/DE Kalen Thornton-- it's pretty much the same story here as it is with Fowler...
OLB Roger Cooper-- doesn't look ready for prime time yet, but he does look like he has tools that can be developed...
MLB Mike Goolsby-- highly regarded when the Boys signed him, but doesn't seem to have done much in camp...
OLB Reggie Love-- the essence of "raw", but he has shown flashes... IMO, this kind of guy is what the practice squad was created for...
LB/DS Jon Condo-- I figure he'll be cut early, don't know if he'd be a good candidate for the PS...
S/KR Woody Dantzler-- unless Woody comes up with 2 or 3 big returns in the coming preseason games, he stands little chance of making the 53 man roster... is he PS eligible??
Lenny Williams-- looks like another year on the PS for Lenny, if he's eligible...
Of this bunch, if I had to guess right now, I'd sign the following 8 players to the practice squad:
TE Tony Curtis
WR/KR Jamaica Rector
WR Reggie Harrell
C/OG Matt Tarullo
DT/OG Chris Van Hoy
OLB Reggie Cooper
OLB Reggie Love
ILB Mike Goolsby
