With Mike gone are we still going to do the earn the Star mess, or are we going with the best available player. For example when we drafted Micah, I can remember he didn't run with the first team in practice they kind of eventually put him in. With more recently Guyton being here last season, our first round pick was way behind Eduga. Some of us feared that he may be the starter, he ended up being the starter his first game of the season vs Cleveland.

With Booker here is he the plug and play guard to be put in the first day of mandatory and camp as our starter, or do you think he takes a back seat for a bit??

I understand there has to be competition and all that, but I think we need to just let these guys get in, get valuable reps and get to work, instead of letting them practice against guys who may not make the team??

Booker day one needs to go against Mazi and OSA, etc etc!

Please give your thoughts on earning the star

This entitled team has not earned anything,
except my apathy.

i like it, but it doesn't seem to matter...id say get rid of all that kind of crap that never made a difference and try a new approach - definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results.

I never liked the idea of "earning the star".... I mean these are grown men, not in grade school. Treat them like you would any other player you got on the team. Best man at each position period.

While I am at it, can we stop with the whole "Hot Boys" and even Dem Boys for that matter.

Yeah things are different these days, and none of that in itself is going to change the attitude of anyone.

But fear not, this strong-willed HC with a credible resume is going to come on in and “change the culture.” Grrrrrrr. Muscle flex.

That’s like me saying the current in the Atlantic Ocean runs the wrong way, and I’m going to jump in and fix it.

There will be no culture change until Jerry quits undermining the staff, forming relationships with players, talking to the media about HC stuff, and a very long ‘etc’ list. It’s the only reason he is here….for the attention! That’s not changing, and neither is the “culture.”

I don’t feel bad for Shoddy because he got a bump in pay and wasn’t getting a HC gig anywhere but here, but he has little chance of success.

(Not directed at you specifically Brass just got on one of my Jerry rants. Happens daily. I miss my Cowboys)

More than likely he’ll be 2nd team for the 1st week or 2 to at least give the impression that he won it!
If you remember before Tyron got hurt Smith was having trouble adjusting to guard early on in camp his rookie season, was mostly running 2nd team and the spazzing was phenomenal so don’t expect to wait long!

The top draft picks will get their stars unless something tragic happens or perhaps something criminal. They aren't getting a signing bonus and not getting a helmet with the star at some point. There was a term a long time ago, perhaps in baseball, where they called those guys Bonus Baby's. They got paid before they ever broke a sweat.

But the latter players selected in the draft, who have no guarantee they will make the team, or the UDFA's have no assurances. So they should earn that star. In fact, I might be inclined to single out the ones who have to prove they deserve a place on the team. But how that would work is beyond me.

I always thought that was weird ...... they draft them and conscript them become Cowboys.

Then tell them to earn the star.

Outdated concept from a time when playing professional football was a second job.

Coogie is back. How many threads today so far?
Seems he missed a few days of asking questions.

Who cares about earning the star. They were signed by the team. Someone thought enough of them to sign them, therefore the Star is a given.

Most fans hate the team and players anyway. Fans need to earn a Star.
Well most fans did earn it. Some may want to give them back.
We need to give them out for fans that earn it. :muttley::popcorn::popcorn:

Playing football did not require a second job when Parcells was coaching the Cowboys.

I get everything you said. Best thing for this team is for Jerry AND family to sell the team. That is not happening so what do we do. We can rightfully gripe, and believe me outside of this forum I gripe more, but I am really trying to overlook the idiocracy that is Jerry. In ways I think Stephen will be much like his dad, but maybe, just maybe, he may have a little more level head about it. Can only hope cuz, like I said, they are not gonna sell the team.

As far as Shotty goes, I was totally against his hiring as I really wanted Ben. Now there are quite a few new coaches out there that I wouldn't want (more than i didn't want Shoddy) like Pete Carrol, Kellen Moore, Deion Sanders.... I definitely didn't want old blood, I wanted new ideas, youth and Ben, to me and many others, fit that perfectly.
Anyways, I was all up against the Shoddy hire, but while I still would prefer Ben (and maybe a few others I forgot about by now), Shoddy has done or said nothing that hurts his standing and he hired a great coaching staff around him. He does have plenty of coaching experience. I think I will play a wait and see.

:hammer:Poor coog, he doesn't know much, that's why he's always asking for thoughts.
I think he knows more than he puts on. I think he just tries to stay out of the agenda battle. But who knows for sure. Only the cog knows.

62 years of fan , this is going to be one of the most exciting off-season for me in a while. We have enough former first rounders to start at every position

( almost ). What better coaches than them?

I love the star, and what it represents,
That’s what this franchise has been missing Mr. cowboy
The cultural alone of Mr. cowboy. Bob Little, the Manster , the Dodger

Troy Michael Emmett.
The Sean Lee’s. I could go on and on.
