Great group... I think of a group that typified the 70's it was them. Soul, R&B, Disco. They did it all.

Well, another suck in the life.. Maurice White was really the substance in that Group. He was really the guy who made it go. I guess he had Parkinson Deases, which I didn't know, but it sounds as if he died peacefully in his sleep. At least it's not another story on how somebody overdosed or some such.

I loved Earth, Wind and Fire. Good music with a little substance and a good beat. Throw in some brass in there to tune it up and you have EWF. I am truly sorry to hear this news.

RIP Maurice White

Got about two or three of their songs on my pod. It's probably the best one in the world overall.

I saw them at the Philadelphia Spectrum back in the seventies. 2nd row I counted 11 people on stage. They were tight and watching the guys twirl their horns. Just a great show. Been rough watching the greats pass on.

Cocoa,... I totally forgot how big a fan you are...
we've lost some greats this year.

I'm a HUGE fan of EWF...and, yes we have lost some greats already this year. I don't think I can take anymore after yesterday's news. It's only February 5 (Roger Staubach's birthday, BTW....saw that on Facebook.)

I read EWF member Philip Bailey's bio a couple of years ago when it came out. According to Bailey, Maurice White was specifically opposed to that culture in the music business

Maurice feels that the material the group performs is meant in a sense, to guide people. “No, we don’t deal in drugs in any way – it’s not necessary if your spirit is clear and your mission is positive. You attract to you what is within you and you can always get good out of any bad. Yes, it is true that a lot of entertainers don’t follow these kind of guidelines – that is may times because they are in it for the wrong reasons. You cannot have an ego and deal with it all and a lot of them misunderstand the whole purpose of their function as a performer. Yes, we do still have to deal with the industry as it is – but we are to an extent protected from it."
