Campbell, Mays Headed To Valley Ranch
Posted by nickeatman at 4/13/2010 12:40 PM CDT
Two players at positions the Cowboys might have a need when the draft rolls around, are coming to town over the next two days.

Offenvie tackle Bruce Campbell, a player who certainly helped his own stock at the draft combine when he blew away scouts and coaches with his agility, is coming to Valley Ranch on Tuesday for a visit.

After that, USC safety Taylor Mays will also be coming through the team headquarters to visit with coaches, scouts and possibly even front-office personnel.

The Cowboys are allowed 30 pre-draft visits of the top college prospects. Two weeks ago, the club hosted 21 players, including names such as Dez Bryant, Mike Iupati, Maurkice Pouncey, Nate Allen, Brandon Lafell and Jared Odrick.

By cutting Flozell Adams and Ken Hamlin two weeks ago, the Cowboys should likely be looking at both the tackle and safety position.

Among the 21 players that visited, the only offensive tackle that came in were Vladimir Ducasse, while Allen of South Florida, Chad Jones of LSU and Georgia Tech’s Morgan Burnett all visited among the safeties.

I like that Chad Jones kid. I don't think he has tapped into his full potential as a Safety.

Here are two great options if your looking for a boom or bust draft.

If we draft TM in the first to play FS....I will blame you and my wrath will be an awesome sight to behold. :p: ;)

please, please, please don't draft Taylor Mays, he'll be a bust as a safety and Campbell is a late second rounder,

I wouldn't worry about Campbell lasting to 27. Seems maybe Al has fallen in love with another guy's combine numbers.

The San Francisco Chronicle's David White "keeps hearing more and more" that the Raiders will indeed draft Maryland LT Bruce Campbell at No. 8 overall.
White is no longer the Raiders beat reporter, so we're taking this report with a grain of salt. Has Al Davis really gotten this predictable with his early first-round picks? After selecting JaMarcus Russell, Darren McFadden, and Darrius Heyward-Bey the past three years, it certainly seems that way.

Taylor Mays might be a bust at saftey but you have to consider he could also play LB. He is 6-3 230 which is a good size for LB and he could learn behind Bradie James or Keith Brooking for a year or two. It's a gamble but one that could pay off in the long run.

Not in the 1st round. You make that kind of gamble with a 4th, maybe a 3rd, not a 1st.

These two players scare me in Round 1.

I truly hope this is just part of the due diligence process . . . . I choose not to read too much into this.

I am going to trust the staff, if they draft mays or campbell I am going to be happy and pull for them.

My gut says campbell won't work out, and that mays needs a position change.

With their physical attributes either one Campbell or Mayes could develope into a terrific pick and a real steal of a choice.

If nothing else it should peek interest for other teams around the league.

Eitherway the potential for greatness is certainly there with these two guys, it's good to see them comming in for a visit.

He's a very intelligent athlete, having also played both outfield and pitcher for the 2009 College World Series champion LSU Tigers.

:scram: <--LSU fan exiting stage left now

If I had a choice between Mays or Colt McCoy in the first I would draft Colt. That's how much I hate trashy Taylor Mays.

I really think it's crazy how the entire world is so down on Taylor Mays.

I don't know if the kid will be a good Free Safety or not.

But people are acting like he's going to be out of the league after two seasons.

I don't see us drafting either of these two.

I guess people see him as the bad Roy Williams for whatever reason. I doubt we draft either one too.

The latest "inside scoop" I heard was that the Raiders would draft Bulaga or Trent Williams in the first round (if one was available), then Tebow in the second round. The same source reportedly had the Raiders drafting Heyward-Bey and Mike Mitchell last year.

I hope Tebow doesn't end up in Oakland.

I really want that kid to succeed, no way it happens there.

If either was there at 59, I'd be interested. 27, no thanks.
