I hate the scheme, wanted this defense to add bigger personnel to be able to handle the run better, this is back to the same small quick twitch fronts to play the run on the way to the qb
Yep that's what I am thinking as well...wonder if they will see if old Rod M wants to come back for a year? I believe it's his scheme our defense will be running.

Wade got fired
Oops, I skipped over him when I was looking back. And in midseason too. So that's two of our last five coaches. And Gailey was fired after two seasons, so that's three of our last five. Of the others, Parcells retired, so only Garrett and McCarthy actually were out when contracts ended.

Switzer resigned and Johnson agreed to a "mutual" split, so it's actually only two of our nine head coaches who left at the end of a contract. Since it's the last two, that may be Stephen's way of doing business or it may just be an anomaly. Even Landry was fired by this front office.

When Eberflus took over as defensive coordinator of the Colts, he improved their defense from No. 30 in scoring defense and yards per game to No. 10 and No. 11 in 2017. The next year, he improved their run defense from No. 26 to No. 8. They held offenses to 3.6 YPC and did not allow a 100-yard rusher all season.

In 2023 with the Bears, he took over the defensive play-calling and Chicago generated 28 turnovers, including a league-leading 22 interceptions. I know his defense wasn't perfect when he was head coach, but I think he failed there more because he wasn't a good head coach than because of the scheme his defense runs.

Eberflus as DC is actually a good hire. He's one of those guys that proved he's a better assistant than head coach.

As far as scheme I like him over Zimmer at this point.

That's all fine and good but the point of my post was that the franchise is going backwards. We ran that scheme here with Kiffen and Marinelli, it's old, and antiquated. The Cowboys have been there, done that already. It didn't work then, they couldn't stop the run and didn't produce turnovers, and we currently do not have the front 4 to run it effectively in my opinion.

Welcome back to the milquetoast Clownboys from the Garrett era!!!

100 percent.

To Stephen, the Garrett years were the golden years of the franchise.

Personnel is always going to be the issue for us, especially with the Joneses' free agent philosophy.

We need better DTs, and probably will lose the best one we have in free agency. We have only one feared pass rusher, although Kneeland could develop and we don't know what Williams will offer coming back from injury. We most likely will need at least one linebacker because I doubt Kendricks will come back with Zimmer out, and we'll possibly need two starters depending on where Eberflus deploys Parsons and with Overshown possibly out for some or part of the year. If Lewis leaves in free agency, we'll need a temporary starting outside corner with Diggs out and a nickel corner.

The only place I think we might be adequate is at safety, even if Hooker leaves in FA, with Wilson, Thomas and Bell. And again, that's just adequate, not great.

I expect all the rats who can to jump off this sinking ship, so the only free agents who will return are those who can't get a better offer elsewhere. Then, of course, the Joneses will fill those holes with whoever is willing to work the cheapest.

Another Jerry anointed DC move .

Apparently Jerry was discontent with Mike Zimmer...and it leaked.

Just me, but i do wonder the low INT scheme (Zimmer scheme doesn't emphasize INTs) had something to do with this

Eberflus seems to run the Cover 2 scheme, and he's had INT turnover success in past defenses, of course the tall tale will be how he schemes Parsons in his defense.

Getting rid of Zeke is a move in the right direction.

One correction: Hooker is not a free agent. I keep thinking he is, but he's under contract through this season.

We are all focused on the coaching fiasco which we should be, however Andy Reed couldn't win with the talent we have on the field.

We have 2 difference makers. One on offense and one on defense. You can't win in this league without talent. We are well behind the Commanders and Eagles in talent. Far far behind.

I think he was LB coach for Parcells? I think he was thought of as a potential candidate for a DC position at that time.
Not the worst hire…I think he is a better DC than HC.
I’m more worried about who will be the OC? A strong one is needed and I’m not sure who is even out there.

Eberflus was LB's coach here 2011-17. Then he got the DC job in Indy and did an excellent job.

I think the OC will be an afterthought. Schottenheimer is probably going to be a playcalling HC like McCarthy was. The OC will basically do what Shotty did the past couple years here.
