Twitter: Ed Reed breaks down CeeDee Lamb's route running

I remember homer fans swearing roy williams was better than Ed. Lol.
Roy was special his first 3 years in the league. The most dominant safety I've ever seen.

I think his body broke down after that from all the hits he put on other people.

Ed Reed, great player, smart dude. They've been teaching to look at the hips since the early 80s. It's all you got against a great WR. Guess what, it's still probably not going to help you much. But good advice.

He was exposed when put into coverage. Once teams figured that out, it took away his ability to do what he did best. Losing Woodson also hurt as that forced him into a free safety that he was not suited for.

Its 1 play but Reed just displayed that the game isn't just athletic talent, a clever mind does just as much. Imagine him playing now in his 23 body with a career of smarts.

I always thought it was more that he came along at the wrong time. He was the last of the big-hitting safeties because the league legislated it out. He was never a superstar in coverage so once they took that away from him he really was exposed as an average safety.

Yeah, losing Woodson definitely hurt. He knew the defense and made sure everyone was lined up properly.

I remember Roy's rookie year he carried Jimmy Smith up the field and made a diving interception.

But he laid a lot of big hits. And when someone lays hits as violently as he did, it causes the body to break down. Similar to runningbacks that are known for punishing defenders often times have shorter careers because of the damage they sustain.

Well, they neutered him first. He could do the horse collar better than about any player and was the reason it was banned because he'd just jerk players down. The league also started removing big hits for safety reasons. Roy became a dinosaur because coverage was never his strong suit. He was an enforcer.

100%. !!! He was better fit for the 80’s when guys could blow up other players without penalties.
