Here is a piece from Ed Werders chat that baffles me.

It was mysterious that in the first offensive series in Washington that Marion Barber had runs of 4 and 10 yards on consecutive plays and then the Cowboys threw on the next 10 snaps. I think Jason will be aware that he got away from the running game and will likely want to use his backs to break in Kyle Kosier and Marc Colombo without exposing them to Julius Peppers' pass-rushing ability. He has averaged nearly a sack per game in his career against Dallas.

when are people going to realize that we just dont run the ball? You can talk until you are blue in the face, but Garrett is going to continue to do what he does..whether you like it or not

This. Garrett has been the coordinator for this team 3 years already. If he hasn't learned after 3 years, he sure as heck isn't gonna learn after 1 game.

And when are people going to actually look at the numbers and realize that the pass to run ratio was 50/50 until the last drive of the game. This run more crap has got to stop for the love of God. :bang2:

I agree with you but the run pass ratio was not 50/50 prior to that last drive

It was close that's all I'm saying. It wasn't as one sided as the ending numbers show.

I'm at work so I can't watch the game to ascertain. But what if it were a situation where the D left 7 in the box on those 2 runs and then brought the 8 guy so we tried to throw against it.

People can bang their heads against the wall all they want but I love it that we refuse to bang our heads against the wall trying to force the run when we have an elite QB, and all these weapons downfield.

Kosier and Columbo just returned and I think they're gonna be beastly. I hope we throw the ball more this game.

People only ***** about it when it doesn't work. But in order for us to be an elite team and get where we want to, we have to be a team with an effective passing game. A team that can take advantage of an opponents weakness or whatever they're giving you.

I went back and watched the Bears game in 07 and we tried being balanced in the first half and our running yardage must have been in the negatives. We came out in the 2nd half, barely called a run play, moved the ball at will and took over the game.

Exactly. We don't have Romo, Witten, Miles and Dez to run the ball. Period. We can have McGee throwing to Marty B and Hurd if we want to be a running team.

I hope it's not like that game last year where Jason got his pout on and refused to throw the ball out of spite.

It wasn't even close.

When he talks about us being "an agressive offense and being successful with that the last 3 years" he's telling everyone our O is pass first not run first.

The fact is Red is Mike Martz and Steve Spurrier 2.0.

We might as well understand that as long as Red is around.

More like he's a coach that understands this is the 21st century.

I understand your point has merit but I don't agree that's the end of it.

I realize we have a great young QB who can throw the ball and we have weapons in the passing game but guys like Martz and Spurrier, who have no real conviction in their gut about the need for balance and establishing a physical running game, have trouble, over time, maintaining a consistent, productive offense that controls the game.

We could have a mother of a running game if we were dedicated to it.

IIRC that's exactly what happened in the home Skins game in '08 when the pass/run ratio was ridiculously skewed... They claimed afterwards that they kept bringing a guy into the box and we were just checking out of what wouldn't work. That was when they (Red) claimed we would work on having an audible to a different run play instead of always checking from run to pass.

I mean, if that's the way you do it, the defense can always dictate what you do, and that's not good.

Exactly. The fact is Red just likes to throw it. He's an ex-QB.

Here is a funny comparison of us to other "great" offensive teams and how many times they run the ball a game.

We averaged 27.2 carries a game.

The Vikings and Saints averaged 29.2 carries a game, and the Packers averaged 27.4 carries a game.

We also had a higher YPC than the Vikings, Saints, and Packers.

The Colts averaged 22.9 carries a game, and had an NFL low 1,294 rushing yards.
