The Cowboys have started adding players to the practice squad. One guy who showed a little promise was Efe Obada. Should we take up a practice squad spot for him? The answer is yes -- because he doesn't count against the practice squad roster.

According to the CBA, Efe Obada can sign with the Cowboys' practice squad for this year and not count against the 8-man limit. He will make $6,600 per week, minimum (as will everyone else) on the practice squad. Only rules are he cannot sign with any team during his International Player year, and his salary doesn't count against the cap or as part of any other Team Salary.

Might as well add him for a year to retain his rights.

Upside without any risk. Shouldn't even be a second thought to add him.

The nfl hasn't given permission to use that international designation since the NFL Europe folded.

Have they denied it for English players? I'd expect they'd want to develop some given the commitment to that market

Instead of focusing on DE, Cowboys should have emphasized ST instead. Obada is bigger and faster but most importantly, cheaper, than McCray.

I like what Obada brings to the table already...and he is a quality athlete. He has some strength on the defensive line. I hope he makes it.

how is he a rare physical talent?

You should try to pay more attention to players that play for your favorite team.

The more likely reason Obada was signed was due to his physical makeup and athletic ability. He stands at 6-6, 265 pounds, with an 83-inch wingspan with 35.5-inch arms. To put this in comparison, Randy Gregory had the largest wingspan among edge rushers in the 2015 draft class, at 81.9 inches, and Danielle Hunter had the longest arms, at 34.3 inches.

Quite frankly, he’s perfect for the position.

The word “athletic” gets thrown around a lot, especially through draft season. Therefore, it’s quite tough to find the hyperbole required to explain just how athletic Obada is. He recorded a 4.63-second 40-yard dash, with 1.53-second 10-yard split. The 40 time was good, especially for a man of his size, but it’s the 10-yard split that is the astonishing number (it’s also more important for defensive linemen than the 40). The time of 1.53 was quicker than all but six players at the 2015 Combine, all of whom were either wide receivers or defensive backs.
