Efficiency: the state or quality of being able to accomplish something with the least waste of time and effort; competency in performance.

The key to winning isn't yardage, it's productivity. Just as it is in business, it's not about how much time you spend working, it's about the rate at which you produce. It's about efficiency on offense and forcing inefficiency on an opponent's offense by the defense.

Okay, yesterday the Commanders created 505 yards of offense and scored 26 points. Therefore, in order to score 7 points, the Commander offense had to travel an average of 136 yards. For the Cowboys, they produced 31 points with their 353 yards, an average of 80 yards for every 7 points.

In this case less is best on offense, more is best on defense.

In fact, for the season, the Cowboys are ranked at #7 in offensive efficiency, they travel an average of 99.3 yards per 7 points scored. For the defense, they force the opponent to travel 130.9 yards per 7 points scored, which actually ranks them at #4, behind only the Patriots, Seahawks, and Chiefs.

Only four other teams are ranked in the top ten both defensively and offensively, Patriots, Eagles, Viking, and Broncos.

When you combine both the offensive and defensive ranking, you can get the top ten most efficient teams in the NFL:

1 NWE
2 DAL
3 PHI
4 DEN
5 MIN
6 KAN
7 BUF
8 IND
9 SEA
10 OAK

The Cowboys are the 2nd most efficient team in the NFL this season by a very slight margin behind the Patriots.

The two most critical components for efficiency is scoring TD's over FG's in the redzone and a positive turnover ratio. The Cowboy defense does not produce many turnovers but this issue is neutralized by the fact that the Cowboy offense rarely turns the ball over.
