Anyone else beta testing this weekend?

I was in there for a little bit. Loving it so far, especially for a beta.

My character ID is: alamotero

This is the third beta ive been invited to so far for ESO. So far everything I have seen points to the game being merely average especially given its HUGE budget. Tack onto that a 60 price tag for the game plus 15 a month and a cash shop to boot in game. Lastly if you want to play an Imperial you have to get the special edition which I believe is 10-20 dollars more. I wanted so much to love this title but so far everything ive seen points to failure.

Actually opps per the NDA maybe we shouldn't be discussing this.
And besides all this I posted was just some crazy dream I had last night and has no basis in reality.

You can discuss things that have been mentioned publicly by the Zenimax Bethesda team, and mention that you are in the beta, iirc. I have mixed feelings on ESO. They are trying to cash in on the Elder Scrolls/Skyrim popularity, using high price and subscription model. Early adopters will pay that higher price, but they get to get all the cool names and other early perks too. The cash shop doesn't seem to have anything particularly game breaking in it...now. I expect they put it in at the beginning so as not to have to go through a bad ftp conversion ala SWTOR. It will be in place should they need it for those purposes.

Personally I don't care about the Imperial thing, as I never played one.

Seems to be the next LOTRO/SWTOR, with a quick 1-2M subs and fade off within 6 months hanging onto a core of 250-500K. Maybe lower numbers given the decline of MMORPGS.

Played the second Beta.. Just.. garbage. Not interested at all now =(

Was Super excited about Everquest Next.. but it is also going to be garbage. The footage for it and the reveal they did a number of months back removed all hope I had for it. Let's run around as a giant Disney cartoon Lion! YEAH!

From all I gather and I watched a couple of recent beta videos and read a little, it seemed that they tried too much to compromise between a traditional MMORPG and the typical TES modus operandi.

The result is a bit boring mechanics of the RPG and cosmetically a weak veil of TES sheen on it. It looks sorta ho-hum to me.

Any fans of the Ultima series here?
If you have not heard the Shroud of the Avatar{unofficial sequel} to Ultima Online will be out at the end of 2014 and for a 45 dollar or above buy in you get the game upon release as well as get to be in every test session til then.

Everquest Next: Landmark is pretty fun and it's just barely into alpha. It's more like a fancy Minecraft though. Not sure what the actual Everquest: Next is going to be like.

Graphics-wise though? It's the same engine and actually playing it, it's a beautiful game. Really.

Oh the graphics are nice, the world is beautiful. But it's the design I hate. The characters all look like they are straight out of a Disney movie. The Giant Cartoon Lion race is the most ridiculous looking thing. Like Simba with a humanoid body.

Those aren't my real problems with the game though. I could get past that if I thought it wasn't going to be just another generic dumbed down everyone gets everything easy MMORPG. Like every MMORPG has been since WoW created that model. Way too much loot, way too easy to level, 15 billion "go kill 15 snakes" quests. WoW killed the genre, which is unfortunate because WoW introduced some really neat things that would be awesome if anyone would make a decent MMO.

Ah well. My hopes for a good MMO are pretty much gone at this point. I might still try EQNext for nostalgia purposes.

I keep wondering when/if the WoW killer will ever get here. This doesn't sound like that game.

The best part of any Elder Scrolls games are the many mods players come up with. But with ESO, you won't be able to mod the game itself, just small things like the UI I assume.

Nod. I wouldn't even enjoy Skyrim without mods. It's very boring as a base game to me.

Who the **** makes a map without roads!? I refused to play the game until I found a decent mod where the map had roads

Haha no doubt. The better maps mod was one of the very first of many quality of life mods I downloaded.

I think at one point I was running like 43 mods. Everything from quality of life mods(better maps, menu systems etc), to graphic mods, character models, follower mods, magic mods, combat mads, new armor/clothing mods, horse mods, enemy mods, AI mods, weapon mods... pretty much a bit of everything. It became an addiction I think. Was always searching for a new cool mod.

The difference in graphics between base Skyrim and a modded Skyrim was rather huge.

It's not like this isn't a games website, ya know..... ;)

I wish they would blend it into a cowboy, video game, political hotspot...just because it seems there is better discussion on this forum compared to specific boards for those interests. :)Too much groupthink kind've thing on niche forums. After reading this discussion, it prompted me to watch a video segment previewing the 2014 RPGs coming out next year (ESO included). I like the contrast.

Looking forward to Witcher 3 especially.
