Just wanted to make a quick note about Romo's arm strength. I have always thought Tony had plenty of arm, he just uses it when he needs it. Like some shortstops, he throws it just hard enough to get it there but he can air it out when needed. Anyone notice the long pass to Robinson? That ball went 55 yards in the air. From our 15 to the opposing 30. Check it out. Probably another 5 yards if it's not caught. Even on really long pass plays, the ball is not usually in the air for more than 40 yards. And he didn't really have to wind up, it was kind of effortless. Just sayin'.

I've never thought he had questionable arm strength.

If anyone has a video of it, there's a pss from a WAS game where TO dropped a monster pass that was probably 60 in the air and it was on a line.

He has enough but rarely needs to or has time to wind up.

If I remember right, while he wasn't invited to the combine, he did show up to throw to some of the receivers that were invited. I believe I read that his arm strength compared very favorably to all the QBs that were invited.

Plus, just watching him. There's not a throw he can't make.

How about the endzone fade to the corner?

Don't know if he can't make it or just feels it's too risky. ( I don't). If I remember, he did it a few times to Roy Williams.

Tony can't throw the fade to save his life, but I'll take him.

Another guy that rarely throws that fade? Tom Brady.

I think Romo has enough arm strength (currently) to be a functional NFL Qb, if he didn't we wouldn't be seeing him play ball on TV. I also think that judging a QB by his deep ball can be misleading. Simply put, alot of QB's can flick the ball 50 yds. downfield but can't throw a rope outside the numbers to save their life. Romo fits in that category, he doesn't have the strength to throw a laser beam. I know some won't agree but Romo isn't in the same league as Aikman, Favre or Elway in terms of arm strength with the ability to throw past a defender with an obscene amount of velocity on the ball.

Craig

Guys with similar or weaker arm strength than his have won Super Bowls (Montana, Simms, Brad Johnson), so it's not an issue.

Brad Johnson....

He had the arm strength of a 7-year old worm.

I don't think you'll find anyone arguing that he's got the arm strength of Aikman, Favre, or Elway. :D There's no one in the current game that does.

Romo has an adequate arm but it's not his strongsuit.

He's got a quick release and probably the best improvisation skills in the league.

Aaron Rogers and Vick have cannons. Joe Flacco and Brady throw some of the nicest deep balls in the game.

Romo doesn't have a canon. The ball doesn't explode out of his hand and whistle through the air. However, his release is fast. I think only Marino and Warner are faster that I have ever seen. The ball jumps away. His touch on the ball is quite nice. His arm strength is more than adequate for how he uses it. He'll never be compared to John Elway in arm strength but he doesn't need to be.

I've never seen Romo air it out as far as he did on that play. That was certainly the best throw I've seen him throw. It Robinson perfectly in stride 60 yds down the field.

here is what i have gathered from this discussion:

arm strength is like leadership, you dont need it to win football games :D

Romo doesn't have a cannon, but I don't think there is any question he has enough arm strength to play the position well.

The only caveat is that if we're facing a Hail Mary situation at the end of the game at midfield, I don't think he could make it to the end zone.
