Electric Razors

i have a battery powered phillips one that i took when i went backpacking for a month rather than carry a razor, gel, balm etc. plus some of the hostels i was staying in the less i had to deal with the bathrooms the better. i used it regularly before i went but these days i only use it occasionally if i'm in a hurry because i find i get a much better shave from a wet shave

Works better then any Electric Razor

I have one and have had several in the past. One thing is clear. A razor blade is 100x better than any electric razor for a close clean shave.

I currently have a Braun. Very similar model to this one. (mine is an older model as I've had it for about 3-4 years now)

If I were to ever buy another electric razor, get the ones with the round floating heads vs the long bar heads like the one in the picture above.

Round floating heads.

The reason I say this is when you are shaving your neck area the round floating heads allow you to move the razor in a circle and the blades can cut from all directions allowing you to get hair that is laying in any direction against your neck. I've owned both types of heads and the round floating heads are just flat out better when shaving the neck area.

I will say this, if you like really close shaves and it's important to you. Skip the electric razor and stick with a blade. There is no comparison between the shave quality of a blade compared to any electric razor.

This.

When traveling, I take my electric razor. It's just easier than carrying a razor, shaving cream, and anything else that I use. It's quick and does an adequate job if I'm traveling for recreation. If it's a business trip, I take my razor.

Gillette Fusion Power. I won't use another razor now.

That's what I use as well. Cartridges are expensive but if you buy them at the PX, there much cheaper.

It does have an electric element to it (to make the whiskers stand up better), so you are right. It is a razor and it is electric but I don't think it can be classified as an electric shaver, so to speak. You still need soap or cream and water.

I agree with you though, it's the best shave I've ever had. Good choice.

Hey Hos,

I don't really use an Electric Shaver but according to ratings, the Braun Series 7, 760 is supposed to be top of the line. It's also very expensive. I don't know.

For the money, the Remington Micro Screen MS2-390 is supposed to be a good deal. Priced low but provides a shave that rivals many of the more expensive Shavers.

Sorry, not very much help I'm afraid.

Braun also - had it about 8 or 9 years - replaced the heads every two years.

I will tell you a strange study I read some 20+ years ago...

8% of adult men use electric razors... 70% of adult men with leukemia use/used electric razors. I wish I could find that study.

The premise was that the forcing of the metal into the skin from the rotating blades was entering the bloodstream and causing leukemia. Leukemia was been linked to metals in the blood stream.

Just sayin'...

That being said, I did use a Norelco shaver for a couple of years. It will take some time for your face to get used to it, but it WILL offer a close shave once you get used to it. I also used a stick powder as a pre-shave...

I now use a brush and shaving soap with a safety razor in the shower. I use only Feather brand blades as they are incredibly sharp. Great shave and a tribute to old school...

I buy all of my supplies from Lee's Safety Razors. My wife borrowed my razor to shave her legs one time. She liked it so much she bought her own safety razor...

I use electric, never had a wet shave in my life. Using the electric also makes it easier to shave my chest/stomach/abs.

I have a Braun Series 7 Pulsonic which is Braun's top of the line shaver and a Panasonic Nanotech which is Panasonic's top of the line model. They're the two best electric shavers on the market bar none but the Panasonic shaves noticeably closer because it has a linear motor and you can use it in the shower. A wet shave especially in the shower where the steam is softening the beard is alot closer than a dry shave. Even shaving with it dry seems to outperform the Braun at least for me. I shave every bit as close with the Panasonic as I do with any blade I've tried and it shaves fast. Both shavers are in the $300 range the Panasonic is definitely worth it. It takes about 30 days for your skin to adjust to the shaver before you'll notice the real close shaves. The performance of this shaver is pretty impressive.

Concur. Gillette Fusion Proglide. Nothing else is a close second, well maybe the Mach 3 Power Turbo.

Fusion Pro Glide for the win.

I had a Braun a few years back an ex-gf gave to me for Xmas. High end model at the time. SHe left, the shaver got dumped too. I can't give up the closeness of the blades.
