you are probably right about Eli. Which is sad; when much more deserving like Chuck Howley had to wait decades.I know why he's in there. That game made the NFL and really began the modern Era. My dad was a Baltimore Colts fan so I grew up learning about that game and Namath. He belongs in the hof for that reason but if you look at the rest of his career he is not hof worthy. I don't care if you like Eli or not. He came up big in the playoffs and won the sb mvp. He led a team that beat the undefeated Patriots. He's not a first ballot hofer but he'll get in eventually.
I just hope he has to wait a long time.
Joe Namath was credited with making the AFL a viable league which was dumb but there you are. The circumstances around that game were strange but looking at it then understandable. The AFL had lost the first two SBs to Green Bay and had been pretty well beaten. Neither game as close as the score showed. A lot of people, if you look at the sportswriters and so on at the time and their articles, were calling the AFL minor league. There have been some who claim that the whole merger was in doubt if the AFL did not look better in the SB soon. I kind of doubt it but who knows. So when Joe Willie makes that claim and then backs it up, it had an impact all out of proportion to the game. Joe played well but not that great really. I would have made Emerson Boozer the MVP if I had to vote.
