Elite offense?

It shouldn't be the least of your concerns, because that's the only way to keep up. Otherwise I agree with you. I don't know if you're old enough, but back during the greatest show on turf days, and the years after their SB win, the offense asked the bad defense to just keep the opponent to 30 points, and we'll do the rest. The early 80s Chargers had a crap D, but yet their offense got them to an AFC championship game. This was our hope. But of course I am talking about teams with hall of fame quarterbacks, and we have Dak.
Oh we at different places. After losing to the Buccs I’m at a place where I’m not interested in “keeping up”. There’s no offense built that can negate giving up 30 plus a game. This season is done. Hopefully they prove me wrong.

I just looked up the Chargers defense and it was ranked 18th on average in yards allowed. You think this defense is even that good? That’s a wild take.

I don’t think you understand how bad this defense is and the fact they just got torched by a team led by a undrafted rookie and a 0-4 team doesn’t show you what they are than I don’t know what will.

The second they started self-appointing themselves GOTI, they put a target on their backs. These kinds of threads are the side effects of calling yourself that. Yes, the defense is the worst side of the ball, but when you label yourself elite and have a chance to close out a game with a drive or two, going three-and-out is not a good look.

If you’re going to call yourselves elite, you’re going to get held to elite standards.
Hold them to elite standards. I don’t care about any of that. I don’t care about stupid names or fans making fun of the stupid names or any of that.

At the end of the day do I have a formidable team? Do I have playoff coaching? I thought we did. Doesn’t seem to be the case. But it did funny 3 days ago I saw articles and posts about how elite we are and 3 days later we are concerned with the offense lol. I don’t operate on a one game basis.

Don't go by the 18th rank. A crap 3-7 Seattle team put up 44 points on them. Their D was garbage, yet they got to the AFCCG. Remember, I watched that season. That Chargers D was putrid. Just because other defenses were worse, that doesn't mean they were any better than the Cowboys. The difference was, they had an elite offense that made up for it.

I don't have any hope going forward after that crap performance against the Bucs. But like you, I hope I'm wrong. This current Cowboys offense reminds me of no other offense of the past that was great. None.

I can’t speak on the 80s so maybe you’re right. I did a quick search and mostly all I see was they were offense dependent but had an average defense. I’ve been watching the NfL since the late 90s and I just have never seen a defense this bad. Normally a defense can pick a struggle. You can’t stop the run, can’t stop the pass, can’t get off the field on 3rd….can’t get sacks….

I remember watching Mike Nolan’s defense and thinking that’s the worst I had seen. They were at least top 5 in turnovers.

I can’t speak on the 80s I just know in current day you can’t survive a bad defense. I’ve seen Burrow and Lamar try and can’t. Mahomes missed the playoffs last year because the defense was bad.

Like I said above though elite or great I don’t really care about the titles especially after week 5. I remember the historic run that McDaniels defense was on after a few weeks and bottomed out. Those titles should be made for when the season is done not week 6.

I agree with you 99% of the time. But trust me on this, that Chargers defense was not average, it was putrid when they traded Fred Dean to the 49ers. Which hurt the Cowboys that year as well.

We're done this year. If we get better, I can see it marginally. Because you can't get worse. Our offense is an issue because I don't see it as elite. This offense, no matter what anyone says, and no matter what stats you want to bring up, will never make up for this defense.

Heres a quick summary description of each game's offensive performance:
-Maybe, maybe not against NYG. A decent argument can be made for lack of opportunities, ie NYG's TOP dominance.
-Against Washington they looked somewhat elite.
-Baltimore was more second half elitet than first.
-Houston they definitely had an elite passing offense in the 2nd half only.
-Against TB the offense was a shitshow both halves.
GOTI went MIA.

Overall, they have had elite spells of passing dominance.
Not what I would call elite.

No NFL team has ever averaged 40 points per game over the course of a full regular season.
The highest-scoring single-season averages in NFL history are:
Then no team has been perfect

Yeah but an offense shouldn’t have to do that though. If that’s the Chargers fair enough but in current day if Mahomes, Lamar and Burrow struggle with a bad defense what makes us any different.

Is the standard for elite to be elite every game?

Think about this. After what we've seen so far, does week 1 surprise you now? We're just bad.

Yeah in hindsight no. Week 1 they got dominated by TOP and I believe had the ball twice in the second half. Offense started off slow. Ravens and Giants are top 10 in defense. Commanders are 18th. Buccaneers are 6th. Texans somehow are 20th.
Three top 10 defenses though it’s still early.

I never bought the best or elite crap. That would require a elite offensive coordinator and I never thought we had that.

LOL, yeah right....an elite offense that just happens to go in the tank at the worst times. By definition, that in itself is not elite. But whatever, at least they're getting paid like elites. what a sham.

Anyone that says this needs to stop. This is a compiler against bad teams. Anytime this offense goes against a good Defense they become mediocre.

Just stop with the “this offense is great” nonsense.

Well the Cowboys aren't the only offense in the league who played against "bad teams". So why aren't those other offenses ranked where our offense is ranked according to what you're saying?

I read someone here calling the Commanders "bottom feeders" after we beat them. If thats the case, why weren't the reigning Superbowl champions able to beat the same "bottom feeder" Commanders that we easily beat? Can't put a spin job answer on this one huh....

This is the NFL. It is hard to win games in this league. Any team can beat any team, at any given time.

With that said, that whole "we can't beat good teams" bs has been put to bed years ago. All of our wins aren't against bad teams.... its a entertaining lil false narrative to read once in a while though.

Is the standard for elite to be elite every game?
I was kind of under that impression.
But right off the bat, the lack of a running game kinda spoils the description for me.

I guess my personal interpretation of an elite standard would include weekly dominance of both run and pass and not spotty pass game dominance as has been this year's model so far.
