He'll probably keep it forever, because 21 will be his age as a rookie.

If he rushes for 1,600 yards this year, he'll become the youngest player ever to average 100 yards rushing per game over a season. These guys were all age 22.

1958 Jim Brown 127.3
2000 Edgerrin James 106.8
1979 Ottis Anderson 100.3

Yeah I forgot about that one but even last year they initially announced Gregory to be #99 before changing him to #94. It's a tricky thing with those rookie numbers because there's so many players on the team at the time of the draft that won't be there once the season starts.

Yeah. I was hoping that with the new number rule changes, Gregory would be like Vic Beasley and go with 44. But 94 looks good on him.

But you're right, there are so many switches before the end of camp. Joe Randle was 35, then 21 which leaves a bad taste in my mouth for 21. #36 is usually reserved for a safety that won't make the team, 34 and 33 for running backs that won't be there in October, 74 for a camp body offensive lineman.

There are plenty of numbers besides 22. Give him one of those and let him make it his own.
