Ellis 4 Sacks in last 4 games

I know most people keep waiting for D. Ware to move up his sack total, I know I am. Since more teams are focusing on him G. Ellis is having a nice season with 8 sacks and counting. Hopefully he will get that double digit number we have been waiting for since he got here.

Keep an eye on Greg Ellis Sunday. He is one sack short of tying last year's career high of nine, and two sacks short of becoming the first Cowboys player to have a double-digit sack season since Tony Tolbert recorded 12 in 1996. Giants quarterback Eli Manning has been sacked 21 times in 385 attempts, or once every 18.7 attempts, and nearly twice a game.

I hope Ellis finally makes the pro bowl. He's really been an outstanding team defensive guy his entire career -- this year he's got some better folks around him and it shows in his production.

Spags mentioned in his last article that if he gets two more sacks, he'll be the first player since Tolbert to have a double-digit sack total.

That's correct - it's also sad.

He had 9 sacks last season while playing approximately 60 plays per game. That is a sack about 0.9 % of the time.

This year he has 8 while playing approximately 40 plays per game. That is a sack about 1.8% of the time.

But those are just numbers. Watching him, he seems to be doing well. He has made some key plays for the defense. I do wish the refs would watch some of the holding that offenses do to him. I know holding could be called on every play by the refs and are rightfully ignored, but I have seen a handfull against Ellis where I can't believe aren't called.

That's correct - it's also sad.

You know for years I would always think to myself that Tolbert wasn't that good with only 12 sacks...but didn't I have a piece of humble pie.

I love Ellis even more this year than previously. I like that he's been able to succeed in the new system and his ability to adapt.
I think having a rushing threat in Ware on the other end has helped take the focus off him a little but I'm not trying to take away what he's done so far. I like that we have two pass rusher DEs now. (yeah I know Ware is technically a "LB" but I'm calling him a DE everytime he starts with a hand on the ground)
Ellis is a consumate professional and great Cowboy representation. I think he'll get his double-digit sack season this year finally and I hope we keep him and Glover until they retire.

And playing fewer snaps has kept Ellis fresh late in the season this year. In 2004, Ellis only had 3 sacks in the last 11 games. This year he's on a pace for 10 sacks in the last 11 games.

Ellis has played very well this season. I do think that Ware gets some of the credit for that - or he should anyway. He's certainly changed the way teams gameplan the Boys defense.

Ellis has played well and I agree with ddh33, Ware should get some credit. At least 3 times this season, I've seen Ware force the QB to step up in the pocket right into Eliis.
