Cowboys | Ellis may be playing final season with team
Sat, 26 Jul 2008 07:54:38 -0700

Calvin Watkins, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys LB Greg Ellis believes he could be playing his final season with the team in 2008. The Cowboys are grooming LB Anthony Spencer to take over for Ellis at outside linebacker. "Not a concern, but (it's) a reality that can very well happen," Ellis said. "It's not a stretch of anybody's imagination. Now, I'm just trying to do what I can do to help this team win."

Everyone always talked about picking Ellis when we could have had Moss, but he has been a pretty productive player for many years now. More so than probably most of the players picked before him.

So is he saying he won't accept a backup or 3rd down role?

His salary will be a bit high for a backup or 3rd down roll. If that's all that is envisioned, he's a likely release.

How about controlling the pie hole Miss Drama Queen.

We don't need our young guys seeing you wine all the time, come on, man up, be a true leader.

If you produce, you will stay..........................................or be traded. :D :D :D

Don't agree at all. If Ellis has another productive year in 08 as a pass rusher who can also play OLB in the 34 & DE in the 43, there's no reason why we can't get something for him. Maybe we can even get a 4th rounder for him if a team is really desperate for a pass rusher or he could be part of a trade which nets us a player we need. Heck the Broncos like former Cowboy DL players as do the Browns, etc. Parcells might even offer us a 4th rounder for him. If we can win the Super Bowl this year, Ellis won't care where he goes so long as he gets more money.

Players like Ellis who constantly whine and complain do not help the team down the stretch when we need real leaders. This team would be better off without players like this....even with a little less talent in a few positions the team would achieve more because it would be a TEAM....not a group of selfish individuals.

I believe Spencer is ready to start now.

It's about time the paronoid ramblings of our favorite player Ellis began filling headlines.

No way, his contract is a bargain; thats why he was so upset the last couple of years.

Anthony Spencer should start, and I think he will. Spencer is going to be a monster, and Ellis needs to Cowboy-up and get his sacks as a specialist. It will make his career longer. Why can't he see this? He will be fresher and can rack up his sacks.

Spencer played well last year. He should have played more than he did. You know the coaches are eager to turn him loose.

I don't think so. I think he's saying Spencer is going to take the starting role and the Cowboys will cut him after this season for a cheaper, younger backup.

It's just typical paranoia by Ellis. He has yet to comprehend that Dallas has no reason to cut him unless it is at least three-deep in pass-rushing OLBs.
