Said after he saw the guy make the catch he starting thinking..."see, I told you I can't do this linebacker thing". He said he thought the guy would start shaking and juking but he was able to make the tackle. You can tell he's now excited. He also stated that he's getting help from Al Singleton and T-New. T-New tells him, "Greg they like to do this route, "watch for this route".

This is on the postgame show on the ticket.

You could tell he was scared to death about trying to make that open field tackle, but he did. Football is still just football. Greg Ellis can play. It's refreshing to see a guy who is actually humble, but I wish Greg was a little more secure in the things he can do on the field.

You're not kidding about needing to be a bit more secure. "See, I told you I can't do this linebacker thing" ?!?!?! I mean, it's hard to figure out what he needs more of, reps on the field or a therapist couch.

Kinda like asking a running back to start being a receiver and do deep slants. Ellis just needs time to get used to everything and he could possibly be a stud linebacker.

No, it isn't.

The one-millionth time, go back and listen to Coach Parcells' comments on the differences between playing 4-3 end and stand-up 3-4 linebacker.

The differences are not nearly as great as Ellis' insecurities are making them appear.

I disagree. All a 4-3 lineman has to do is get after the QB and hold his ground on the running plays.. Sniff out screens, and once in a blue moon, drop into a zone.

3-4 lineman has to continuiously be in coverage and actually cover receivers from time to time. IMO, that's a huge difference. But Parcells' point was, he thought that Ellis had the physical makeup to get it done. He thinks that Ellis is agile enough, and has good enough lateral movement to get it done, and I think he's right too.. It's just convincing Ellis he can do it.

Oh yea, like you would know right. Im sure you gameplay against NFL defenses every week. This problem with this board is everyone thinks they know everything about the NFL.

Go back and listen to the 8/7 press conference (I think 12 minutes in). Parcells was very adamant about LOLB being basically the same as a 4-3 DE and that Ellis's fears are overrated. In case you were wondering, Parcells does gameplay for and against NFL defenses every week.

No, Bill Parcells knows.

When he says the differences are minimal I believe him.

Unlike people such as yourself that feel like they are equipped to argue with that.

You are right, there are people on this board that think they know everything, apparently you feel you do.

while u guys r fighting about what he said... who here knows why he is doing this? from a gameplan standpoint... can anyone tell me why PARCELLS is doing this? He has Singleton, Carp, Burnett,Glymph who can man the position why Ellis? why now?

sorry... u cant google the answer or find it ina Fantasy mag.

Was there a question in there?

Maybe Ellis can become another Levon Kirkland/Willie McGinest-type intimidating oversized monster LB (Kirkland was 6'1", 275 lbs., McGinest is 6'5", 270 lbs., Ellis is 6'6", 270 lbs.). If Parcells, who knows LB's, says Ellis has the agility to play outside despite his size, I believe him. Hopefully Ellis internalizes Parcells' faith in him.
