United Blood Services, the charity of choice for Sunland Park Racetrack and Casinos Winstar Derby Gala, has received hundreds of phone calls over the past five months since the announcement was made that Emmitt Smith, former running back for the Dallas Cowboys, would be the keynote speaker for its annual event. Tickets to the public were not available, as table sponsors were quick to renew their participation in the event.
"We treat our corporate sponsors of the Win Star Derby Gala like season ticket holders," said Rose Lucero-Mercado, UBS Marketing Manager. "Previous sponsors have the first right to purchase tickets to our event again."

Past speakers at the Win Star Derby Gala have included NFL legends, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Theisman, and Mike Ditka.

After months of having a sold-out event, United Blood Services has one pair of tickets to the March 17 event available to the public-through a raffle. Individuals that are willing to donate blood or platelets at any of the three local United Blood Services centers will automatically be entered into the drawing.

Donors may make their donation Saturday through March 16. United Blood Services has three centers in the immediate area: 424 South Mesa Hills, 1338 North Zaragoza, and 1200 Commerce in Las Cruces.

Individuals interested in donating are encouraged to make an appointment at 544-5422 or 505-527-1322.

Have never heard of United Blood Services.

Off the top of my head I have never heard of any other organizations that take blood.

Always red cross or just donating to a hospital.

Sounds like a good cause, just never heard of that organization.

That makes no sense, if you don't have a temperature, you're dead...

I don't believe they let dead people give blood either, which pretty much eliminates everybody, doesn't it??

Uggh I meant I had a high temperature. It was like 100.5 or something like that.
