We got the IRS scammer phone call about a month ago. I was out in the garage when the Spousal Unit came frantically running towards me with the phone saying, "It's the IRS...they want to talk to you.". For a moment, I was scared about what I was going to hear. Not that I regularly practice tax evasion, but because you still get that pucker factor like when law enforcement comes knocking on your door.
So I answer, and the dude with clearly an Indian accent started in with:
"IRS" - "Hello, this is Brad Wilson, I'm with the IRS. I need you to confirm your name for me."
At that moment, I paused and had flashbacks of some youtube videos about this. They say that the IRS doesn't deal with you over the phone, they do it in writing.
Me- "Tell me who you think I am?"
"IRS" - "Sir, I'm with the IRS and this is a very important matter. I need you to confirm your name."
Me- "Yeah, I don't know who you are. You can send a letter to my address."
"IRS"- "What is your address?"
Me- "Alright, I gotta go." *click*
