Before I begin some of you know me as a Commanders fan. After the 2005 season I dropped being a fan of any team in any sport as being a priorty of mine.

To the point.

Something is embarrassing but its not this team nor any others its the actions of the fans of teams after a big loss like this. Fans talking about not watching the sport anymore, throwing things in there house, and much worse.

Seems over the years the sport has changed for players and fans in a negative way. Players even at the highschool level these days, dont worry about the game being fun. THey dont win mainly for pride, in their school or themselvs. THey talk about the fame (being like T.O.), or the paychecks.

Fans act like nice christians dressing their children up like their favorite player and bring them to the game. THen those same players are seen on tv booing children who wear jerseys of opposing teams. Fans come on here complaining they hate it so much going to work hearing about their team losing and listening to smack. However when their teams win they provide that same stress to their follow coworkers by doing the samething. The biasism and hypocrisy of fans is mindblowing.

I stopped watching the nfl to see the Commanders win and the cowboys lose, and just got back into enjoying the game, and the greatness men accomplish in this game. Since then my health has gottin better and so has my personal life.

Instead of talking to people about the game or the team, and taking your anger / sadness out on your friends and loved ones try something different. Do something that has some meaning. If your married take your wife out and show her you love her for no reason other then that. If you have a kid take him out for a good time (bowling or something), just because you love your kids. If your single and childless, do something for a best friend or you parents who raised your *** lol.

This is still a game its still suppose to be about fun, it shouldnt bring about so much depression or anger. Go watch a pee-wee game or highschool game where ego hasnt sprung its big ugly head up yet.

*Before its said this message goes out to the fans of any team not just the cowboys, just seeing these post around here lately brought these memorys back up.

That's not a good post, it's a great post. Folks sometimes lose perspective when it comes to football or sports in general in comparison to real life.

You know, it's true. I gave up the NBA because of how badly it is ran and how upset I would get after games. Football and the Cowboys I probably can never give up, but it effects me very badly. While I do get upset when they get beaten by a better team, I get very nasty when they beat themselves against a team they should beat. I caught myself being pretty nasty to my family a few times last night and had to back myself off. It just isn't fair to them. (even though my wife is a dirty Giants fan)

I can never make up for the nastiness I displayed, but I will apologize and do something for my wife and children.

Now, I wasn't mean to my family, (I would never do that) but I had a very nasty attitude and was very curt with them at times.

Some fans will always act stupid. It just comes with the territory.

I'm more embarrassed by the NFL and it's obvious lack of integrity this year, and its horrendous, inconsistent, biased officiating year in and year out.

Yeah this was a GREAT post, my father reminds me all the time it's ONLY a game... He's right and I thank him for letting me know that.

Thank you for shedding a bit a perspective. We cheer because we love the game and have pride in our team. That's all that should matter.

comparing sports to real life is an easy way to ignore competitive spirit.

you play to win the game. if football isnt your business then get out.

Excellant post!I felt a bit of pride last night when my wife came in after the game and, based on my demeanor said, "the Cowboys won huh?".I told her, and I meant it, "no hon, they choked big time but it's only a game".Then I took the dogs out to play hockey for an hour and life goes on.....I did not have the same reaction after the 94 championship game so maybe we do wise up as we age if we allow ourselves to.

Awesome post! After the game last night I sat on the couch hugging my youngster daughter for quite awhile. It took quite a bit of the angry/misery away and I'm thankful that I am not a prick to everyone like I use to be!

My biggest issue with the NFL officiating this year is the roughing the passer stuff. The NFL is FAST, and if the ball has left his hand even 1/10th of a second before they call roughing. What, because the rusher saw he was about the throw the ball? You are supposed to do everything you can possible do to stop the play. If he didn't want to get hit, get rid of the ball before he gets that close.

I understand and agree that there should be roughing the passer penalties on clearly late hits, but they are calling a lot of BS. This is football and he is a QB. Not a ballerina

This loss didn't upset me as much as I thought it would, either! I had to console my 10yr old son because he took it pretty hard, but for the most part we'll survive! Now, don't get me wrong, I'm soured on the sport and probably won't watch anymore football this season (maybe the S/B) but I no longer let losses like these destroy my week like I used to. The hardest part for me is listening to fans of other teams brag and boast (ie Commanders' fans) about Dallas' loss like THEIR team defeated us; that pi$$es me off to no end (especially since I'm not much of a talker)!
BRING ON THE '08 SEASON!!!!

Go look up a few words:

  1. Fandom
  2. Fan
  3. Fanatic (ism)
  4. Passion (ate)
Sports has become a culture.
Fans are passionate about it. People take ALOT of things too far. Pointing out sports is narrowminded. Tunnelvision.

This is a great post but I think you can be a fan and be passionate and still keep things in perspective.

Follow what we tell the players to do: Enjoy the games. The ride is supposed to be as important as the destination. Don't trash talk, we hate it when players do it, I don't understand why fans feel they have to do it. Respect other teams (and their fans) - these are all top class professional athletes and just because someone is on another team they aren't evil.

Passion is good. Just keep in it perspective and try to be mature about it, win or lose.

Personally, I am a Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle, Godfather, and friend first.
I love the Commanders and the NFL as much as anyone, but I don't let that be the sole expression of my being.

I have the passion for perfection and desire for excellence from my teams, but if it doesn't happen it never negates who I am as a person.

My 2 cents.

Fans of a team are passionate. They are also not exactly alike. Some of us look at the standings and are thrilled. Some of us look at the last game and are concerned.

We claw and scratch at each other's throats and scream and shout and try and embarrass each other. All because we care about the team. We just care in different ways.

After a win you have to expect a lot of gloating. If it's a close win there's going to be some sky is falling too.

After a loss you have to expect that the sky is falling. You also have to expect some people to not want to read or hear that the sky is falling. They love the team and can't stand the negativity.

It's the nature of fandom. There is not one of us on this forum who didn't swear (maybe under your breath) when Flozell Adams had yet another false start on a critical 3rd down. Do we swear because we hate Flozell Adams? Some possibly do. Some because it was his 10th penalty. Some because it was 3rd down. Some because it was a penalty. And some just because we swear at everything.

The point is, regardless of how someone views the circumstances or the players or the team, we all love this team and want to win. The only time I dislike it, is when it gets personal. For the most part that doesn't happen here, but of course there are bound to be exceptions.

I'm happy with the season, unhappy with the loss, and I don't give two hoots in hell for anyone's desire to make me unhappy about the season. That's me. If others don't feel the same way that's their pereogative.

I find nothing embarrassing about any of this. Passion is a great thing. To hell with a vanilla life.
