The Giants couldn't afford to lose today cuz they were playing the worst team in the NFL and heading into a bye. If they want to have a shot at taking over first place from the Cowboys in two weeks, they HAD to win today.

There's nothing wrong with that answer. If they fell 2 games and a tiebreaker behind us, they'd have a real tough time winning the division. Doesn't mean they wouldn't make the playoffs, but it would totally ruin their division hopes.

I agree that Emmitt is not good on ESPN. This is the second thread I have seen you start where you try to cite examples at how poor Emmitt is in his analysis and in both you have given poor examples. There are probably dozens of better examples of Emmitt doing a bad job. This is not one of them.

The Giants have a recent history of choking in the second half of the season. They could not afford to lose a game against a bad Miami team. That kind of loss may have put them in a tail spin like the last few years.

And the goal is not to just make the playoffs. It is to position yourself to succeed in the playoffs. Both Dallas and New York limped into the playoffs last year and both ended up losing in their first games.

I think Emmitt will be or at least should be replaced on ESPN. It is obvious he is not that good. I am just surprised at your examples especially when you say that he comes across as stupid. Just not the case in the ones you cite.
