Emmitt Smith had the same procedure done to the same bone on the same hand in 1999. He played 12 days later, missing one game because the Cowboys' bye didn't happen to fall in between. Of course, Smith had it easier because he carried the ball instead of having to catch it, and he favored his left hand anyway.

was this the minnesota game where he broke his hand going into the endzone? that was emmitt at his best- i really wish he could have finished that one out.

For the second time Emmitt has had the same unusual injury as a current Cowboy. He had the broken shoulder blade (JJ's injury) and now this. Strange.

Emmitt was not catching high velosity passes with that hand either.

I think Emmitt would have topped his best single game yardage total that day against Minnesota.

Probably.

He was on fire that day.

140 yards by halftime. He still scored a TD on a run after breaking his hand when he stiff-armed a Minnesota defender's facemask.

A receiver doesn't catch a football like a baseball. Receivers catch the sided not the points. Remember the trinangle with your hands the coaches in HS harped on.

Damn ... you know, I've been thinking of that Emmitt injury and wondered if it was the same one. He was having a helluva a game. If I'm not mistaken, that was the first game after Walter Payton died, and Emmitt was dedicating the game to him.
