They have never shied away from calling themselves "The Hogs" God only knows why, I think it's a ridiculous identity to attach to your team. This could be their new logo for their helmets. Of course we could have a field day with this.

Actually would be a pretty cool idea. Then we could call the week's we play them "hog slaughterin' week" -- "who wants some bacon?" -- "baby back ribs for dinner" -- etc., etc.

Brad Sham started calling them "the Washingtons" a few years ago, lol. Still cracks me up every time.

skins wont suffice the critics. because it still connotes scalping a skin. the hell with the critics anyways. people do take something that was originally derogatory and make it positive thus changing the meaning. it happens all the time. from trash to pride.

Guys, you have it all wrong. Pigskins, Natives, bla bla bla. Forget those.

Washington Snuggle Britches could really work.

What about using the name of the old baseball team, the Washington senators? That way I could say "I hope we kill the senators this weekend" without the secret service knocking on my door :)

I preferred the idea of the 'Red Clouds' as the nickname. It would give an about face for the years of the Commanders name and it would allow the Washington fans to still dress in Native American regalia, but now it would be deemed as a tribute to the Native American culture and people.

With all due respect to Emmitt, I don't think the "Skins" really has that certain something that sounds too cool. It's quite difficult, at best, for one to come up with a reasonably respectful name for that sad sack outfit. The slightly outlandish moniker "Foreskins" came to mind but then again, that probably wouldn't carry too much appeal for their fans, either. I suppose the same can be said for the "Washington Savages." It's just a tough nut to crack. -- lol

I don't think the name Commanders has anything to do with scalping. I may be wrong but probably not. If someone took that leap with the shortening of the name Skins to mean scalping, their issues are far greater than a team nickname.

This is one area that I stand 100% behind Daniel Snyder, the Skins organization, their fans and the Native Americans that support the Commanders' name. PC is killing normal discourse between humans. Some people need to just get the hell over it and move on.

PC kills the normal discourse between humans when people start losing money and livelihoods and are essentially banished from society instead of trying to put the people ahead of the word and try to educate those people as to why that word may be offensive.

Nobody is going to lose a dime if the Commanders name is changed. In fact, history indicates that Snyder will actually make more money. Nobody is going to have their livelihood severely altered if the Commanders name is dropped. And Washington Commanders fans will still be fans of the team regardless of what they are called.

It's an embarrassing name for a team to be called in the NFL and they have every motivation to change it other than to be stubborn.

I'm all for fighting against political correctness and the way many people act with regards to it. But, this is not the hill I feel worth dying for. There are no repercussions if the name is changed other than Snyder and the NFL won't look like a bunch of ignorant and insensitive dopes anymore. I guess that is too much for them to deal with.

u could be right but I was reading that there were a number of meanings for that term. one of which was how many Commanders one could get. how many skins one could scalp as a trophy. I'm fine with skins honestly. but the critics and pc crowd probably wouldn't be still. but if this is the answer than cool. I just don't see how. a comedian I heard said they should just changed their name to sunburned white people.

Funny thing about people. Each one has their own point of view. Just as you do.
