Emmitt or Dorsett

I loved Dorsett, but Emmitt was about as consistent as it gets, and it's not like he never took it to the house himself.

TD on the 90’s Team would have been sick. But it will always be Emmitt. He brought me so much joy
Emmit always had his durability. He performed on a high level for a very long time. And of course he was part of a Cowboys team most of us remember with an positive connonation because they grew up watching them.

But when it comes to elite skills in their prime i think their are many backs that were better than him. As many already posted here id chose Sanders over any back. He is by far the best back to ever play the game.

But the question here was not about Sanders. So i chose Dorsett just because of the reasons i mentioned above.

Behind the line Emmitt had, Dorsett would have a field day. Look at his tape; he had also had some tough runs, but gliding through those holes would have been easy.

I love Emmitt for his toughness, tenacity and leadership. He also had good game speed. But Tony will always be my favorite Dallas running back.

Really, this question is unfair because they are two generational backs but very different styles. There is no wrong answer. When push comes to shove..******...I guess I gotta go with Tony. Just because of his ability to hit a home run from 99 yards out. Plus in the passing game he was lethal. His numbers would have been even greater had they chosen to pass to him more. I hate picking between the two backs.

I love Dorsett but he fumbled an awful lot. I think Emmitt is the more complete back.
Yeah Tony did fumble. True. Emmitt rarely did. Only reason Landry stuck with Tony was his game changing speed to change a game quickly. That's the only reason I chose Tony . The speed and ability in the passing game. Emmitt was far better too at pass blocking than Tony. If you needed a first down in 3rd and 4, Emmitt and that line would get 8. Some times he would pop one for a long TD on those b gap runs. The Giants and Eagles know all too well lol.

You have solid team with very good OLine but you gotta pick your RB… who you picking yo be your RB? And why?
Tony Dorsett
Emmitt Smith

This a very tough call. Dorsett is a threat every time he touches the ball to take it to the house but occasionally gets caught behind the los and Emmitt rarely gets caught behind the los but rarely takes it to the house.
Emmitt because he could get up to speed in three steps and could make cuts in the hole. Blocked well and he always gained yards and was very durable.

Your not wrong. Like I said above, there is no wrong answer. Both guys were generational. Pick your poison.

I believe it was Nate Newton who said they were not pro bowlers until Emmitt arrived. When Emmitt missed two games to start the 1993 season we lost both games and against Atlanta he went out hurt after 1 carry…lost the game.

I will add that Emmitt, TD and Staubach are my favorite Cowboys.

Easily Dorsett. If Dorsett would have played behind the wall of Dallas, he would have won the rushing title every year.

TD....easy choice for me
Emmitt turned me off his last few years a bit.........he cared more about stats ( catching Walter Payton ) than winning.
Can you blame him? The team sucked those years with no talent, why wouldn’t he do that? They were hardly sniffing 6 wins.

I watched them both.
Guys are correct, it just depends on what you look for in a back.
TD was a generational back with elite speed.
Emmitt was a generational back with the best vision I have ever seen in a back. GOAT running back, imo.

My choice is Emmitt though because while TD might break it for a touchdown, he was also a drive killer who lost yardage in the backfield. I don't have the stats there, but it did seem like Emmitt just seldom ever got tackled behind the LOS, and TD might double back and lose yards - or use his speed to break a huge run. I just prefer the Emmitt type back that basically always got positive yards, even when there was nothing there.

PS: if it weren't for injury...I think Bo Jackson would have been the Goat at RB even above Barry Sanders, Emmitt, Eric Dickerson, Terrell Davis, Walter Payton, Earl Campbell, Jim Brown, Marcus Allen, LT, Fault, AP or the more recent studs. Bo was elite in both speed and power.

But Emmitt actually did it, not just had the ability to do it. He has the most yards, and the most TDs by a back. That makes him the GOAT.

TD was so fun to watch as he could score from anywhere on the field. Emmitt was the better pure running back in my opinion. Fans were lucky to have either. Wish I took time to appreciate Emmitt more.
