I thought the rest of the team was trash while Emmitt was there...recalling the "diamond among trash" comment.

"I think the Cowboys have somewhat lost their true identity," he said. "I mean, I think the team -- we don't know if we want to be a pass team or a run team."
Jerry doesnt call the plays.

"Dallas dialed up just 336 runs, compared to a swath of playoff clubs -- Seattle (336), San Francisco (505) and Philadelphia (500) -- who all finished top five in attempts. Ten of the top 15 rushing squads, in terms of carries, made the postseason in 2013."

Seems to be a major error in this part of the article. Which team had 336 attempts?

That made me mad at the time too. But he's not wrong to say this team has lost its identity. Maybe some of you are too young to really know how this team used to be identified?? America's Team were perennial winners....but now just a shadow of what we used to be.

Emmitt will always be a great Cowboy. But whether the team wants to be a pass team or a run team is not the issue. Certainly not on defense, which was one of the worst ever seen in history.

Emmitt won't admit to the teams core problem: Jerry Jones. All the other problems eminate from Jerry. And those other problems can't be fixed until Jerry changes. The Marcus Spears interview pretty much confirmed this.

But Jerry and Emmitt have a father/son relationship. So you won't hear Emmitt talk about the true issues that involve this team. He will never bad mouth Jerry Jones.

I'm sure it was a typo. Likely the Seahawks had 536 attempts.

Keeping Monte K has proven we obviously don't care

The decision to keep Kiffin has more to do with consistency; it's somewhat hypocritical to blame injuries then fire the guy whose unit has been most beset by injuries two years in a row.

For the record, I'm just explaining the rationale behind the decision. I'm not judging the rightness or wrongness of it.

This is indeed true.

I agree.

And while I love me some Emmitt..

he sometimes opens his mouth and says things he needs to not say out loud.

While Troy and Moose and Woody and Irvin have gone on to be media personalities..

Smith consistently goes in reverse with his delivery

The best he ever accomplished outside the sport was doing Men's beard coloring commercials.

Sad.

Emmitt is my fav of all time but he's full of BS here. He's actually talking about a 1-2 punch? He griped about Hambrick taking some of his carries. He's talking about the cowboys drought? He wasnt talking about it when Jerry was paying him to break a record. Shut up Emmitt

This line of reasoning didn't work for Rob Ryan.

If anything, firing Ryan and keeping Kiffin shows managements inconsistency.

Just a hunch on my part, but if the Cowboys of today had a warrior like Emmitt who could pound the rock and stay healthy and 4 All-Pros on the OL along with a a hall-of-fame QB and WR along with an impressive TE, we'd probably run the ball and be more balanced. Especially considering we'd probably have a defense that wasn't a sieve either and could actually stop, for example, Detroit from driving 80 yeards in 50 seconds with no timeouts.

Hey Diamond surrounded by trash... get a real job! LOL

Thats diamond surrounded by trash was always misinterpreted by fans. He called the star the diamond and him and the whole team the trash.

Really?

Rob Ryan is a complete poison pill.

You watch.

He's Never..Ever..

Going to be anything but what he is.

the lesser of two football brothers from a football father neither of which Rob will ever equal?

Sorry.

Mixed feelings about this. There are times when keeping quiet isn't the most prudent thing to do. It's like the difference between how you handle it if your best friend (1) gets drunk once or (2) is an alcoholic. In the first case, you might just brush it off and say nothing (we've all been there!) but in the second, an intervention is necessary and you may have to be the one to deliver it because no one else can.

Troy and the others, being media personalities, might come off as just another ESPN/Fox media person piling on the Cowboys. In this situation, Emmitt's words might mean more.

Hey Hos..

How's it hanging?

Longtime no speak..?

Yep, our boy #22 needs to tone it down..huh?

Leopords and spots..huh?

As some one in this thread said..

When the team was in sharp decline and the Cowboys kept him the last couple of years to get his record..

Smith wasn't concerned about any Cowboy traditions.

Just his place in history.

I agree.

He's better than this.
