I know the guy had a great line to run behind but the team was not nearly as effective when he was not on the field. He had great vision, was tough and could do it all - run, catch, block, etc... great competitor. One of my all time favorites.

The playoff game against the Giants when he played with a separated shoulder was one of the gutsiest and toughest performances I have sen at any time in any sport. Epic. I think Madden went to the locker room after the game to see him - the only time he had ever done that.

Wasn't a playoff game but yeah, that was probably his most memorable game.

If Dallas won that particular game, it would ensure home-field advantage and a week off...which Emmitt needed in retrospect.

Wasn't it a playin game?

Not quite. It was for the division title (and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs) in the last game of the season.

We still would've earned a Wild Card spot even with a loss, but it was obviously an enormous regular season game.

Fully agree. Yes it was a very good OL but yet no other RB who would fill in was even close to being as productive. Emmitt proved himself in college then came to the pro's and once again proved it. It was not all about the OL Emmitt was one tough runner who did not have great speed but have great burst into the hole and could take it to the house just as well. I think people should go back and look at some of the spectacular runs displaying great strength and balance. In my view everything Emmitt achieved as a team player and as an individual he earned it and deserves being called the all-time leading rusher in NFL History.

18355 rushing yards, 165 TD rushing, 4 times NFL leading rusher (3 in a row) , Rookie of the Year, league MVP, could block and rec. The man was downright awsome.

That game was so important not only for those reasons you mentioned but avoiding having to go to San Fran in the divisional round. History could have been much different if we don't win that game.

What a player he was.

It was a pleasure to watch every game he ever played in a Cowboy uniform. A true pleasure.

The guy was money and a big time clutch running back. You needed 5 yards he'd get 6. He always seemed to get a first down and keep the chains moving. Very elusive and strong, I believe the drive in SB XXVIII showed that, defensive players were just bouncing off of him. He will never get the credit he desreves but he was one of the best i have ever seen. A true winner!
