Now that AP has been cut, the closest active player to catch Emmitt is...

Frank Gore in his 14th season 4329 yards behind Emmitt.
LeSean McCoy in his 10th season 8263 yards behind Emmitt

If Gore can average 1000 yards a season, he'll catch Emmitt in 4-5 years. Or when he's 40 years old. :)

It's a record that won't be passed for a while. Increase in the passing game and devaluing of RB's will hurt any RB chance of getting close to 18k

I didn’t realize Gore was that close but it’s unlikely he’ll still be playing at 40.

Gore career yards another example like in Emmitt that it doesnt accurately define greatest RB All Time. But no doubt Gore longevity will place him among the leagues all time leading rushers.

It will stand until the NFL goes back to a run dominated era with lead franchise RBs instead of RB by committee. That may take a while but the day will come eventually.

Saquon Barkley in his 1st season 18,355 yards behind Emmitt.

Probably be a 52 week schedule also...

That record probably won't be broken unless the owners push for an 18 game schedule comes through.

Even then that's going to take a special back to get that many yards.

I totally forgot about Gore. I'm amazed he's that close to Emmitt's record. Those are Hall of Fame numbers, and I've never thought of Gore as HOF worthy.

Zeke will obliterate that record to the tune of Emmitt being removed from the Hall of Fame.

Different era.

Unless they increase the regular season to 18-20 games, that record will be extremely hard to break.
The one guy who easily could be holding the record, Barry Sanders, retired in his prime. Gotta have serious longigivity...and beig on a winner definitley helps players want to stick around.

Emmitt's got a full on stranglehold on this now.

It's probably one of the hardest NFL records to break. Not impossible, but one that is as safe as any. With the way the passing game has developed, not something we're going to see in the next 20 years.

Emmitt and my all time favorite player.
Played 15 years with 18,355 yards, so an average of 1,223.67 yards per year.

Zeke, in 2 years has 2,614 yards and has missed 7 games, screwed out of 6 games and they held him out of one game at the end of the 2016 season. So he has already missed more games than Emmitt has in his entire year I believe, but not because of anything but failure by the NFL FO.

Anyway, Zeke if he plays another 13 years will only need to average 1,210 yards per year.

His record with the chang of the game going to a more passing approach will never be broken

He gets knocked down due to his line but he was an all down all time great back and we were blessed to have him on our team.
