Cowboys have long been disproportionately represented in NFL rushing records.

  • Emmitt - career leading rushing yards, also most rushing attempts and rushing RDs
  • Murray - 253 yards in a game as rookie, most-ever by a rookie (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
  • Emmitt, Dorsett, Perkins all in Top 5 when they retired
  • Emmitt - 11 straight thousand-yard seasons
  • Dorsett - 99 yard run from scrimmage
  • Murray - started first seven games of a season with 100+ yards
  • Felix Jones: rookie record for most consecutive games to start a season with TD(?)
  • Emmitt: most rushing TDs in a season (until broken by Tomlinson)

Felix Jones scored a TD in 1 consecutive game to start his rookie season. He had 3 carries for 10 yards and 0 TD's in his second game against the Eagles. I would think someone has at least 2.

Also, AP holds the rookie single game rushing record with 296 yards (set in 2007). The rest of the list looks good though.

It's Sunday I don't feel like working. Feel free to do your own research.

what?! I never knew that about Perkins. Very interesting.

Yeah, he retired at No. 5. The players ahead of him were Jim Brown (12,312 yards), Joe Perry (9,723 yards), Jim Taylor (8,597 yards), and John Henry Johnson (6,803 yards). Perk finished with 6,217.

The next best running back team is probably the Rams. They drafted Jerome Bettis (7th most rushing yards ever), Eric Dickerson (9th most ever), Steven Jackson (18th), traded from Marshall Faulk who's in the hall for what he did with the Rams (12th most), and have Todd Gurley who, like Zeke, will probably be pretty high on that list 10 years from now.

I just wanted to point out that the Cowboys are one of 3 teams in the NFL to have 2 10,000+ yard running backs as their top 2 all-time rushers.

Cowboys: Emmitt Smith (17,162) and Tony Dorsett (12,036)

Steelers: Franco Harris (11,950) and Jerome Bettis (10,571)

Bills: Thurman Thomas (11,938) and OJ Simpson (10,183)

That's strong argument, but I think you have to go further than that specific number. Steven Jackson, for instance, is a 10k runner, but Marshall Faulk isn't. No one would argue SJ was better than Faulk. So in that sense, Jackson, a 10k runner, is arguably the Rams 4th or 5th best RB ever. That kind of sustained excellence at the position is staggering, especially considering it all happened after 1983

I get what you're saying, but all I was doing is pointing out the only 3 teams in the NFL to have 2 backs rush for 10,000+ yards in their uniform.
