seriously, everyone knows now how bad that Arizona O-Line is.. they are getting bad press everywhere you look now.. all those weapons on offense and they still can't do anything.. why? Their O-Line.. it was even worse when Emmitt was there, and they had less weapons on offense (Boldin was hurt most of that year..)

Edgerrin James is supposed to be an elite RB, but through five games he is averaging 3.1 yards per carry for 343 yards and 2 touchdowns..

last year, they thought JJ Arrington could be the guy but he got 370 yards and averaged 3.3 yards per carry.. the other guy they thought could get it done, Marcel Shipp, only averaged 2.9 yards a carry for 451 yards..

by comparison, Emmitt in his last year, at 35 years old and in only 14 games because of an injury, gained 937 yards for 3.5 yards per carry and 9 touchdowns.. he even threw a touchdown pass..

You have to go back to 1998 to find a better year by an Arizona RB, and that includes Thomas Jones and Michael Pittman..

looking back on it now, Emmitt's last year was pretty amazing.. With that O-Line and with less weapons than they have now, he singlehandedly won them a couple of games and had a couple of 100 yard days.. Emmitt still had some gas left in that old tank..

Oh come on, get real! You know that Emmitt was only good because of all the great OLines he played behind. Why, everyone who isn't a Cowboys fan says so....right?

I agree with you completely. It is a shame that Emmitt isn't universally recognized for his greatness. In terms of overall effectiveness, he is the greatest ever. Yes others may have been faster or shiftier or more powerful; but nobody was more effective.

I would rather have had an old aging smith over a young blob of a RB Hambrick. I felt that way even before we let Hambrick have the job. He never impressed me, unless it was as a backup.

Actually, Emmitt was quite willing to renegotiate his contract to stay in Dallas but ONLY if he was going to be the #1 RB which Parcells wasn't willing to commit to. Bill went with Troy Hambrick instead... :bang2:

Yeah I agree, its just to bad that "cheap" and "suck" usually go together.

I wasn't a big Hambrick fan either, but there are two inescapable facts that have to be remembered.

1. Emmitt forced the Cowboys hand. He said he was interested in returning, but only if he were guaranteed to be the starter. I don't think you can make that kind of guarantee to a guy in his prime, much less a guy who was clearly in the twilight of his career.

2. Emmitt was only going to get less and less effective as he aged and took more hits, whereas at least with Hambrick there was some hope that he would get better as he gained more knowledge and experience (a hope we now know was ill-founded).

Parcells wanted to be the high man, and with Emmitt there and his leadership already established Parcells wouldn't have been. And I think we might have won a few more games that mirage of a year with Emmitt instead of useless Hambrick.

I'm just wondering how anyone could possibly think Parcells could ever have been a successful coach - much less a highly successful one - if he were too worried about sharing the spotlight to keep quality, high profile players on the team?

This is searching for excuses.

Besides, he didn't run off Lawrence Taylor, Phil Simms, Curtis Martin and others at previous stops.

And besides, do you think Parcells, much less any successful coach, is going to let a player dictate who starts and who doesn't other than by earning it with their play?

Emmitt did want to stay, sure. If he was the starter. But more than anything he wanted to put some more yards on his record.
