Maybe there are others who feel this way about our beloved Cowboys. If you are not one who shares this point of view, you can quit reading anytime you please. After forcing myself to watch the game this morning, I better understand all the disappointed posters on this board. What a pathetic effort from top to bottom by a team we pour our heart & soul into. We don't realistically expect to win every game but it's not asking too much to expect a professional effort by everybody on the team. As a lifelong Cowboys fan for many years I made an uncomfortable decision last night. I taped the game & went to the movies with the family. Night at the Museum was fun & laughter was had by all. If I had been home watching the game, ranting & raving & broken items would have been the result. After further review, I have come to several conclusions. And I am no less of a fan for having made them - I actually feel liberated. I will not invest any more emotional capital in this team. I will no longer rearrange my schedule to fit them. If they are on tv & it is convenient for me, I'll watch them. If anything else interesting presents itself, I will have no hesitation to pop in a tape & record the game - watching later only if it is not a waste of my time. As of right now, this team does not deserve our complete attention. There will be no living & dying on each & every score or blundered mishap or excuse made by these million dollar babies. What is the point of this post - here it is. I crossed over - no longer will sundays, mondays, saturdays, & sometimes thursdays be the Cowboys domain & monopoly over my life. They now have to compete with every other form of entertainment for my attention & money. You can do it too. There is no shame and can actually earn you points with the wife - if that's what you need. I came here to tell you guys I love this message board & many a time it has boosted my spirits to read that others were feeling the same emotions & predicting better times to come. I come to remind us all - they are entertainers & it is ok to treat them the same way you would a bad song when it comes on the radio.

to my brothers who sometimes find their way to this message board - your boys will love Night at the Museum. I give it 5 stars.

What is this? A voice of reason! Where did you go right? Clearly, something must be done to prevent this from spreading.

Welcome to the board anyway.

Why all of a sudden feel this way? Why didnt it start 10 years ago?

It's gonna take more than this for me to get over 96-99 where we still had a core of players that werent gray beards.. yet we were totally mediocre.

Not to mention enduring the Campo/QC eras.

I realize now the NFL is just a crapshoot for virtually every team no matter what they do. Theres no other way to explain anything from the Rams going 4-12 to the show 7 or 8 years ago to perhaps the Saints going from 3-13 to the show this year... and everything else thats happened with the vast majority of teams every year inbetween.

Forget "5 year plans" or even 4 or 3 year ones. If a "plan" doesnt work after a year or 2 scrap it from the HC on down as necessary and start over. You too could get lucky and have everything fall into place. Course even if it does you'll be just about as lucky to go over .500 the following year anyway.

I've been feeling the same thing. Might not watch the lions game and will probably watch the playoff game as long as it's interesting (any bets how long that will be?). I'm not going to watch the draft all day, not going to spend hours reading pointless articles about the team. I'll still be glad if they win but if they lose, it's just a game.

I dont know. I still think its possible to have a run of 5 years or so, surely you will lose players to money as you gain success, but I dont believe you can go 4-12 then superbowl and then 4-12 again. Well, I do believe you can do that, but thats not what I want from my cowboy teams. I want a long term winner that I can be proud of knowing that every year we could well win it all.

The landscape of football has changed from when I was a kid and growing up under Landry and a regime that did not change peroid to todays rent a superbowl teams. What happened to 'greatness'. Its been replaced with 'pretty good this year, well see about next year next year'.

GREAT POST! I cannot tell you how many times I have caught myself acting like a jerk to my family because the Cowboys lost. It's pathetic of me to have done that.

I'm getting off the rant board and taking my family to see Charlotte's Web now. Thanks for the prompt.

after the game yesterday, why should we invest more emotion in this team than the players do....

I have to watch games by myself b/c I become a monster to ANYONE around me when we're f'ing up

my ex g/f (when we were together, I made her leave as soon as the monday night washington game was over last season).. my mom.. my dad... brother... little sister... friends... ANYONE. I cuss, I yell, I'm vulgar, etc

can't say I'll stop watching, but I began to show signs of backing off emotionally as I took to just laughing about how pathetic we were as the game wore on last night

You sir, are a wise man.

It is only a ballgame. bunch of mostly idiot millionaires chasing a leather ball.

If you let that be the controlling thing in your life, you effectively have no life.

Over the years I have come to understood my beloved sports franchises, which I root for annually and pay dearly to watch (annual renewal of NBA League Pass and NFL Season Ticket), are just not as important as family/friends. I still have my moments where I tune everything else out but I really make a concerted effort nowadays to use the DVR or just watch the highlights if family/friends happen to overlap.

Fam, it's easy to make a reactionary post like this. You are angry, embarassed, and frustrated and have good rerason to be. You may say that now, but your admittance of your Boys dependency, refutes everything you said about turning away. You will be back next week, Book it. Hell, you know how many times I have said I will not watch another Cards game?? After the Oakland debacle, I swore I'd rather clean up vomit than watch another listless Dennis Green effort, but I was right back the next week through the GB joks as well. At least your boys are going to the playoffs!

If you didn't care you wouldn't be posting on a Cowboys message board, I know how you feel however, I felt the same way under the Campo era, if the players didn't care why should I?, why should I spend money on merchandise?. Somehow we all get sucked back in, it's just right know we are all hurting. I think the future is pretty bright when you think we finally found a QB and although they aren't playing well, there is a lot of talent in Dallas. Just hang in there!.

If their is no emotional investment, you might as well be a neutral watching a college football game. No emotion in losing equals no emotion in victory either.

Of course I realize their are other forms of entertainment, and guess what, I am happy to be a Cowboy fan. If rearranging 3 hours one day a week for 16 weeks out of the year is so difficult for you, then you probably made the right choice.
