Empty backfield on 3rd and short

I have been surprised at the number of times Linehan has gone with an empty backfield on 3rd and short. I would have thought the threat of a draw play would have helped slow the pass rush some, not to mention Murray's blocking skills as another benefit of having him in there.

if it's short yardage the pass rush is not an issue really. the benefit of having a back is the option of a run to keep the lbs in the middle and close to the line

I hate the empty backfield. All it does is make it easier for a Defense to defend. You don't have to account for the run in an empty backfield set. At least set up in a run formation and motion to an empty backfield. That would at least make the defense use a personnel package to account for the run. I hate empty backfield.

Six to one.....Half a dozen to the other, IMO.

It's worked both ways for them.

Thank goodness the Cowboys' recent success has drive away much of your kind.

All it takes is 7-3 to forget all the bad that's gone on? Wow, okay. Garrett has done a tremendous amount of illogical things, has been stubborn to change or adjust, even when it's obvious. That doesn't just go away because there's finally some success. We were 7-4 in 2011. How did that turn out?

Try as you might, this thread is not about JG, so you're just coming off as a troll. But, like I said, I can deal with on or two of you to bring a little nonsense to this board.

It drives me crazy seeing no one in the backfield on 3rd and short. It just screams " pass incoming". The draw-play needs to be utilized more, love it and keeps defenses on their toes.

yeah, but i hate draw plays on 3rd and short. just too much room for a two yard loss.

The empty backfield was more prominent against Jacksonville. The reason, in my opinion, was to create easier throws for Romo, who clearly did not have his typical velocity on passes.

they've done quite a bit of it all year and I don't understand it. you want 3rd and shorts to give you the run/pass option and more important to keep the d guessing.

Maybe they are setting up for a Romo QB draw. Open up middle of the field, he runs for a 1st down or TD.
As a defensive, would you expect Romo to do this?

Ahh,,,JG, you genius HC....

Their third down efficiency was 4/13 - 30%; anybody have the break down?

Totally agree, see end of Commanders game. Pass, pass, pass, lose the game after DeMarco gets you 8 yds. on first down. Dumb, dumb, dumb, stubborn, dumb.

Definitely the most glaring and frustrating example of it.

Top offensive line and league's leading rusher?

Empty backfield!
